One of the Top public schools in the nation

“Full ride” means merit scholaship for full tuition. Generally speaking the Ivy’s and top LAC’s don’t offer merit scholarships, period. One or tow tiers down schools like Case Western, George Washington, Kenyon and so forth offer $25K scholarsips to top students. a 27 on the ACT is not high enough for you to qualify or significant merit aid. Your extracurriculars are strong, particularly debate. You probably can get into West Point if that’s the direction you want to take. Stanford and the Ivys probably not with a 27 ACT, if you had a 32 your chances would improve significantly. Many of the students applying to Ivy’s and Stanford will have completed 3 - 5 AP’s or the IB equivelant before thier senior year and be enrolled in 4 - 6 AP’s their senior year. You’ve not provided details, but it sounds as if your curriculum lacks rigor perhaps no fault of yours. Being african american helps a lot but that’s once you’re in the game and have the test scores. If you are going into senior year, you haven’t yet taken part in the Summer Leadership program. Make sure you have a challenging curriculum next year but don’t kill yourself. If i were you, I’d lock myself in a room with the ACT or SAT test book and not come out until August. The key to success on these tests is practice, practice, practice. I am a volunteer Academy field force guy so I’m pretty familiar with the profile of admitted students and this year my D applied to Stanford and several Ivy’s so we’ve recently lived through what it takes.

Sorry for the lack of Detail, here is some more

Notable Classes
Differential Calculus, Intergral Calculus

Next year:
Ap Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Lit, Spanish 3, Intro to Organic Chem, Organic Chem , Ornothology

My school is a public boarding school for the top students in the state. It’s extremely selective. I recently took the ACT and I’m awaiting the results. Most of the leadership positions, I got I received with only being at the school for only 1 year.

With all your EC’s – especially sports – West Point is a real possibility. Still a reach, but USMA is a reach for everybody. You would be competitive and probably get at least a nomination.

Hard to get into Stanford or the Ivies with a 30 ACT. It does happen sometimes though, so feel free to pick your favorite two or three. Then focus a little lower if you score a 30 or so on the ACT. Explore Tulane, Boston University, University of Denver, etc…
