Chance me!

Sophomore

GPA: Currently 3.7 on a 4.0 scale for freshman year
Sophomore GPA is predicted to be 4.2
Planning to take much more AP classes to boost GPA

PSAT: first time = 1210
practice sat= 1910
(however, this was for the old sat, and the new one is so much harder for me)

How much would I have to improve if I want to apply to Vanderbilt/USC/NYU for film?
Meaning, is it too much of a stretch to aim that far, or could I do it with a little bit of practice?

I’m aiming to start a film club and I’m currently in 3 other clubs (Humane, FBLA, Key). In FBLA, I plan to submit a video for the psa competition. I will be taking at least 4/7 of my classes next year (as a junior) in AP courses, and will also enroll for dual enrollment.

Also, for the “first generation college student”, does it count if my parents went to a college outside of the states?

Thank you!

Chance me Cornell/Vanderbilt/UVA/NYU/Columbia/Berkeley/Upenn/Yale

I expect that I will improve a lot on my standardized test scores (rose score from 1500 to 1900 in 2 months freshman year)

Okay, there is no way anyone is going to be able to chance you as a sophomore. Im a senior that applied to every school you listed except Berkeley, but if you would have looked at my stats sophomore year, you probably wouldn’t have predicted that.

While it looks like you have a good start, that SAT score should be 2100+ to be competitive. Do that, plus have a great GPA and some solid ECs (preferably that show leadership and/or a passion) and you will have a solid shot anywhere. Also, the ACT might be worth a try if you struggle with the SAT!

Being a first-generation college student means your parents have not completed a bachelor’s degree.
Your stats look good, but we’ll need your real SATs to chance you.
