Junior Year: A,A,A,A,A,A/A,A,A,A,A,B - 3 AP’s

New SAT: 710-math, 690-reading (planning to re-take)

AP Scores: Lang - 4, Psych - 5, USH - 4

Extracurriculars: Internships at a neurological institute and a health network (100+ combined), Youth Group Leader for 5 years, JV Basketball, NHS, 2 years Physics Club, 4 years Chess Club (VP), 3 years DECA (VP?), (Did some volunteer work with youth group, but plan to do some this year.), Science NHS, 2 years Key Club.

Senior Courses: AP Macro, AP Micro, AP Gov, AP Stats, AP Calc AB, AB Lit, also taking some community college classes (concurrent enrollment, not thru my hs) such as chem and bio.

I want to go into the medical field with an MBA. My dream school is UCLA. I am out-of-state, but my dad works in CA. Plan to go to UCR, UCI, UCLA, or maybe Berkley (not likely). Any help is appreciated.

Plug in the # of A’s and B’s for Sophomore/Junior year. Add 6 extra honors points for the 3 AP classes.

What is the average # of AP classes taken by the top students at your HS? Intended major is business?

So Dad works in CA and lives in CA?

@Gumbymom His job is located in CA but doesn’t live there. I would say maybe around 8/9 AP’s by the end of high school, so I would be on track with the top students. My intended major would be either business or something medical, depends on what school is easier to get into, but my main goal is to achieve an MD/MBA.

@ClarinetDad16 I called the UCLA admissions office and said that I would need to have lived there for at least a year in order to be deemed a CA resident.

UCR and UCI are very possible. UCLA has no business school but offers Business Economics. UCLA is always a tough admit but you are within range just not a sure thing. Write some compelling essays and they could boost your chances. If your parents are OK with paying the OOS costs of $55K/year with no FA, then definitely apply.

UC’s give little merit aid, most aid is need based for in-state students. The Regents/Chancellor scholarships are for the top 1-2% applicants and they range from $10K/year at UCR to $2500 at UCB and alll have a need-based component. I would not count on the UC’s for merit if that is how you plan to fund these schools.

@Gumbymom Alright. Sorry to ask you so many questions, but does class rank matter? I’m in the top 12% at my school of roughly 550 students.

UC’s do not consider rank in their application review but the majority of UC admits in the top 10% of their HS classes.

Informational purposes only: For California applicants only, the UC’s look at rank based on ELC eligibility (top 9% of class or state). ELC Eligibility means that an California applicant which does not get into a UC of their choice will be offered a spot at UC Merced.
