Hi, could someone please tell me what you think my chances are for the following schools?:
-American University
-George Washington University
-Catholic University of America
-The New School
-Hofstra University
-UMass Boston
(I’ll be applying to the Arts & Sciences programs)
My overall GPA is 3.42, but I brought it up and my senior year GPA is 3.75.
In addition to the normal classes, I have…
-4 years of English
-3.5 years of math
-Chemistry, Biology, Physics
-3 years of History
-French 1 & 2
-Spanish 1
I’ve also taken a few classes through BYU’s online independent study program.
Volunteer work:
-Volunteer once a week in a 2nd grade classroom. (Help with work, give spelling tests, etc)
And I don’t know if it helps, but I also did independent study for my last year of high school and graduated a semester early.
*I’ll be applying through the test optional policy, so I won’t submit any SAT or ACT scores. (They aren’t very good)
Please be honest! And a few of these are my “reach” schools. I’ve applied to some safe ones as well
Thanks!
-American University (reach & too hard for you)
-George Washington University (reach & too hard for you)
-Catholic University of America (match)
-The New School (high match)
-Hofstra University (high match)
-UMass Boston (low match)
Apparently you don’t have any safety school due to low GPA and no test scores. While not submitting test score may be an option for you, it won’t look good on you as colleges are already expecting that the reason you aren’t turning in is because your test score is not good.
Try to find one or two safeties.
Um I know my GPA could be a lot higher, but it’s not that bad. So yes, I actually do have safety schools, and so far have gotten into the two I’ve applied to.
But thank you for telling me what you think my chances are.
And about UMass Boston - The average accepted GPA there is 3.23.
My GPA is quite a bit higher than that. Do you really think it will be hard for me to get into?
I think you are misinformed about something
Here is a difficulty spectrum:
Safety | Low Match | Match | High Match | Low Reach | Reach | High Reach
<---- higher acceptance chance ************** lower acceptance chance ---->
I said UMass Boston would be low match for you. Low match is just one level above safety. If you are considering low match a difficult school, then you really are a coward (although I’m sure the actual reason was because there was some misunderstanding.)
I usually say it’s a safety school when the school has a high acceptance rate AND when your stats are stellar compared to that school’s students’ average high school profiles.
Ohh ok. Wow I feel so stupid for that lol
I guess you can tell I’m new to this site. Well thank you
