FIRST IN FAMILY TO GO TO COLLEGE
Caucasion

I would say you have a pretty good shot at getting in. You have a good gpa and act score as well. Also, since you are the first one in your family to go to college, that will help a lot. One thing I think is cool about Tufts is that I get the sense that admissions makes their decisions not off of numbers (more so than other schools). I guess what I’m trying to say is that your numbers look good but your essays, interview, and how you present yourself matter more than numbers. Best of luck!

thanks so much! that’s really good to know. i always disliked how impersonal admissions processes can be; i’m glad Tufts is different.

Not sure there is enough data to make this conclusion. Practically none of the admitted students have posted stats. Almost all schools claim they don’t go by the numbers and almost all largely do. Of the schools that I am paying attention to this year, only USC seems to be a notable exception. The numbers for their scholarship recipients are all over the map, several valedictorians and academic “overachievers” passed over, several people with ho-hum sub-2000 SATs, sub 3.8 GPAs, and >10% class rank admitted. Go figure, I have stopped trying to find rhime or reason. D will have to somehow survive another 3-4 weeks to find out :-(
