General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: USC one of my top 2 (the other is UCLA)

So do I stand a chance?

What school/major at USC are you applying to?

(I’m impressed you used the template.)

Biological sciences

You may have already compared your stats to the Freshman Profile- Fall 2008. If not, take a look:
http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2008v3.pdf

Your GPA is good but your test scores are low. It’s good you are taking AP Chem and AP Bio but AP Calc would have been better than H Pre-Calc. But I’m not familiar with Bio sciences so I don’t know the requirements/competitiveness. URM will help.

You have a shot but no one here can really know for sure.

Good luck!

Ya, I am worried about my test scores, too. I couldn’t take AP Calc without taking Pre-Calc first (school rules).
Does USC have a holistic approach to admissions like UCLA or is it some formula?

I also applied to UCLA. Do I stand a chance there? I think being out of state is a huge disadvantage.

^Whoa, you shouldn’t ask Trojans UCLA questions in this forum. lol!

Sorry!
But I just really wanted to know and I didn’t want to post the same thread in the UCLA section.

This is what I figure for my years at CC.

Low SAT, high GPA: good chances at UCLA
High SAT, average GPA: good chances at USC

I don’t know about ACT.

Surprisingly, I think I have to agree with Columbia_Student. At least this was the case with me (and most of my friends who went to USC vs. those who went to UCLA). Obviously we are generalizing it, but I’m not the only one who’s noticed this trend.

So do I stand a chance at either university? Both are my dream schools! :)

Also, I had Prob/Stats H my first semester (I dropped it for Pre-Calc H second semester), will that affect me later on?

Mid-Year Report (USC): I got A’s in all of my classes except math where I got a B [this has happened in all my years of high school; I can never get an A in math try as I may :(]

Other things I forgot to include in my original post: Clubs- Beatles Fan Club (yeah my school has one), Special events attended- Las Vegas Sun Youth Forum 2008 (pretty big deal in LV, idk if that matters), Other- I had a letter published to the editor of the LA Times (if that even matters), Who’s Who Among American High School Students (my freshman year; is this a good thing?).
