good luck!

As an in state student, your chances would be fair. Out of state though? Expect a fight on your hands. Admissions officers like to see a higher class ranking, especially in the absence of a national level accomplishment. When you consider the fact that two thirds of the valedictorians who applied were turned away, a clearer view of your chances appears.

Feel free to talk to one of the admissions officers. They’re open to discussing your chances, and will spare no frankness when evaluating what you have.

I disagree - top 10% is not going to hurt at all. Yes, most valedictorians are rejected, but many, many non-valedictorians are also accepted. Once you’re around the top 10%, it comes down to GPA, SAT/ACT, EC’s, essays, and recs. Those other 5 components are much more important than simply a higher rank.
