Chance my friend-interesting story

Well, my friend is very smart and would absolutely love to go to NYU.
Only probelm is, he doesn’t score well on standardized tests. 25 ACT 2080 SAT. low 600s on SAT 2s. He has a stellar GPA, 4.15 weighted, around 3.9 UW. Took around 4 APs. As in all. He has a strong passion for science and has done well in many science fairs in his state and in the U.S. I work with him in a biochem lab and we talk about this like everyday. He lives in North Dakota like me, obviously. He is involved with many clubs in school-NHS, Key Club, German Club Pres. etc. He is taking a 500-level Biochemistry class at UND with me and he does very well. I’m just wondering if he would have any chance at all. Qualifies for FinAid and he has a cool idea about science and living in ND. I know he would strive at NYU or any school. Please respond. Thanks guys.

his sat is really good…

He definitely has a shot. Colleges know not everyone is a good test taker and his SAT is actually fine for NYU. Not to mention if the counselor writes how he is an exceptional student but he doesn’t test well it will be overlooked by admissions. There are other factors than just test scores.

And, he lives in North Dakota. NYU wants to be able to say that they have a student from each state. This year, and most other years, they are only able to say that they have students from 49 states (the exception being North Dakota).
