NYU Steinhardt School (Letter or Rec from 2 alums)
Tufts
Boston University
Syracuse
Skidmore

Also, if you guys have any advice or tips that’d be great!

A few questions…

how vigorous was your girlfriend’s workload? Did she take any AP’s? Honors?

what’s her SAT score on the new SAT? out of 2400?

Judging solely by her GPA and old SAT and ACT… and that she’s Hispanic,

I’d say that she’s a match for Boston, and 70+% for Steinhardt.

Syracuse might be a slight reach for communication/ journalism (ranked #1 nation wide)

Her father being deceased could help her out a tad bit too… if she wrote about her hardships growing up in her essays.

She did write that for her essays

1880/2400

She took 1 AP last year as well as 1 honors class, and 3 APs this year with 1 college level course

Tufts is quite unlikely, but you never know. She has a good chance at the tohers.

thanks lola

any1 else?

Syracuse- match

So is she fine with URM status even if she is part Jewish? (just curious)

When you fill out ethnicity/race, Jewish is not an option. So I’m guessing she will fill out Hispanic, in which case , yes, she is an URM.

Syracuse - Safe Match

BU - Match

Skidmore - Safe Match

Tufts & NYU - Reach

aha, makes sense lolabelle. But generally, if one of your parents are Jewish, that would mean they are most likely European (white) or Middle eastern (white or asian) no? Unless both parents are part of the Jewish community in the hispanic country, which is possible, but even they trace their ancestry to Europe most likely, no?

I am just really curious about this. The question of mixed race came up a few times in the forum and I never received a definite answer.

The category “Hispanic” is an ETHNIC category NOT a RACIAL one, as are “African American”, “Native American”, “Asian American”, etc. EVERYONE from Latin America is Hispanic, even though they might be white, black, Amerindian, Jewish, Catholic, paganist, etc. Therefore, white Jew or not, if you’re from Costa Rica or Brazil or Mexico or wherever, you’re still Hispanic. A Hispanic white Jew, if you will. I am!

PS: It’s interesting to note that “Hispanic” is a federally-constructed category for U.S. Census purposes.
