UF is my first choice and I think my chances are good but I’ve heard horror stories of people with similar stats not getting in or getting PaCE (a dealbreaker for me) so I was just wondering what some others on here may think.
@Sean_Ranieri hi, your stats are great. Looks like you got one B. Do you know where your HS is ranked in the state? Look at Niche if you don’t. Ask your guidance counselor to check Naviance if you are in a county that uses it. If not they gave the stats for your school. How many AP, honors, Aice have you taken? Did you apply summer B? I honestly would be surprised if you didn’t get into the honors program.
Niche says it’s ranked about 350th, I’ll have taken 10 AP classes by the time I graduate, almost all the rest are honors except for one AICE class and a few regular classes. I applied for fall but I would be ok attending summer B (I’d just prefer fall).

He’s gotten into Georgia, Clemson, UCF, USF so far, also waiting on FSU. He was offered merit scholarship at all but Georgia so far
Famous last words. UF is very quirky in admissions. Much can depend on who else is applying from his hs. A friend with very high stats (and I think a test school much higher than 1370) wasn’t accepted mostly because she’s from a Gainesville high school and most of her hs applied to UF. She’s happy somewhere else, but was very disappointed at the time not to be accepted to UF.
Actually to correct myself - UF states no preference for in state vs. out of state. The heavy in state is due to the bright futures, pre-pay, etc. and according to the school where you go to HS is not relevant. Obviously, we don’t know how the #s will be this year…but I’m betting on OP’s son - but they’ll know soon and he’s already has great acceptances.
1. “The number of people who apply to UF from your high school affects your chance of acceptance.”
False. UF does not have a quota or any special number of students required to be accepted from each high school. Team up with your pals; you’re not competing! Plus, if you are all accepted, you can go to college together.
My kids graduated from a Florida hs. The feeling among the kids was they weren’t all getting in even if they all wanted UF.
The class split pretty much evenly between UF, FSU and UCF of those who wanted those schools; many others wanted FIU, UNF, and other schools in Florida. There were some students who went OOS, mostly athletes. Very few went to GA because there isn’t a lot of aid from GA schools. More went to Alabama and Mississippi public schools because of money available. This was several years ago when BF wasn’t as generous. It was easier to pass up (or make up in aid at other schools) $3k than it is to give up $7k.
are you sure you recalculated the GPA correctly… seems very high for 9 AP’s and the rest honors considering honors is valued at 4.5? thought i would ask… as well as being just outside the top 5% its unusual to be at a 4.77 which is about as perfect as it gets since almost everyone has taken honors Alg, honors Geom, Honors pre calc, 2-3 years of honors Spanish along with Honors Bio and honors Chem
Yes, AP is based on 5 and Honors are 4.5. He had 5 high school credit classes in middle school, all honors. He only had one semester B since 7th grade. Our school has a cumulative weighted GPA, so the valedictorian taking DE classes usually are over an 8.0 GPA. So since he didn’t take any DE, his school weighted GPA is lower than the top members of his class
Edited to add recalculated GPA is core classes only not electives. So for him it’s 9 AP and 11 Honors classes through his junior year. The rest are electives.
The good news…you’ll know in 12 days and all is amateurs will be validated …or not. I’m comfortable he’ll get in. But a mere 12 days will give u the truth. Let us know.

Please let me know her chances (if she had a really strong essay and outstanding Alumni Rec’s)
It would be a reach unless she can improve SAT and GPA significantly. They rejected a few people in the 1500 SAT range this year, so it would be an uphill battle. I would recommend go to the UF results (These Students Were Accepted RD at U. Florida Class of 2028) to see some of the people who did get in. ECs are very impressive though, so there could be a small chance. And they would not read an alumni rec since they don’t except any letters from anyone.
btw - you need to recalc the weighted. UF uses a +.5 for Honors and +1 for AP - so your weighted doesn’t correlate to the 3.2 UW - which is more likely a 3. something.
While statistically, there is no chance, every year we see kids getting into schools with stats that don’t match up - so there are always exceptions. But based on what you just shared, it wouldn’t be a reach but a high reach. FSU would be a high reach.
In Florida your public targets would be FGCU, FAU, UNF, and UWF.
As mentioned earlier this would not be your GPA for UF or any Florida Public
They all recalculate

GPA
4.4-4.6
The above range represents the core, weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale that UF calculates as part of the evaluation process. Dual-enrollment courses in core areas and any AP, IB or AICE classes receive an extra 1.0 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 5.0 on a 4.0 scale. Pre-AICE, pre-AP, pre-IB and Honors classes receive a 0.5 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 4.5 on a 4.0 scale.
