Chance of getting rejected from all ivies + S&M?

<p>Chance of being rejected (these figures are from 09, because it was the best source I had):</p>

<p>That means, that if one applies to all top 11 schools, one has a 74.9% chance at getting into one. Do these numbers reassure you?</p>

<p>That’s assuming the applicant pool is the same for each school, which it isn’t.</p>

<p>Also assuming everyone has the same chance of getting into each school regardless of qualifications, which is also untrue.</p>

<p>As was mentioned above, those techniques only work when they are independent probabilities. In reality, an applicant usually has much better or much worse chances. For example, someone with a 1000/2400 on the SAT probably has a 100% chance of getting rejected from all of them…</p>
