Honestly. I could easily see why you would get in but I can also see why you would not. Unfortunately UC’s do not smile upon C’s, but they do not eliminate you for getting them either. Im not trying to scare you or anything, its just that I only got two or three B’s my entire high school life, the rest where A’s, was involved in choir, community service, clubs and took every AP class I could. I got a 2020 on my SAT. I applied all up and down the California coast and did not get into Cal, UCLA, or USC. I did however get into UCSD and will be attending there in the fall, so if you have any questions about the application process please feel free to ask. So UCSD was my fifth choice, I also applied to Stanford but expected the rejection from there. So I did everything that I’m supposed to do but I was still completely screwed over. However bitter I was at all the unexpected rejection, I am now very happy to be attending UCSD. What I can tell you is that the whole UC system is a complete crapshoot, for lack of a better phrase. Last year was also the supposed peak of difficulty for getting into college. So consider yourself lucky… So far looking good except for the C’s but that was just a rumor I heard after all. Work hard this year, get good grades. Don’t give up music if its something you truly love. The greatest advice I can give you is start writing essays now. Once senior year starts you have a lot less time on your hands, a lot less. If you really love San Diego, and it is truly a great place, apply to USD, SDSU, Point Loma, and some of the other schools down there they are all really close together and I bet that you could get some scholarship money from them.

Your SAT scores are fine but your UC GPA may be a little low for UCSD. You still have a good shot but your chances are better at UCSB. Good luck!

Laurnadoon, that was excellent advice. My son is going to Cal in the fall. He couldn’t believe the amount of people that were turned down to those three universities you mentioned. It was a ridiculously tough year for admissions and you are right. Admissions to the top UC’s are indeed a crapshoot. UCSD is an excellent university. Congratulations on getting accepted and I wish you the best of luck next year. As an aside, I have another son who attends USD. He loves it there!
