For the most part I worried more about making a impressive resume for a job as a Software Engineer for making Video Games so I developed games and did not do much school stuff. The stats arn’t impressive for stuff like MIT or such, but I think it is OK for SMU!

9th Grade was messed up as in 8th grade my mom died from a dumb ****er drinking and driving. I was messed up and depressed for awhile. I still managed a steady GPA though

I am a current student and I would definately encourage you to apply. SMU looks at everything you have done in high school from test scores, gpa, extra curriculars and other things. It is hard to say what your chances are as every class that applies is different. But my recommendation would be to visit campus, see if you like it, and if you do then apply!

I think your chances are very good. I would turn your focus on software engineering around in the way you present it to the school. In your post you talk about it somewhat apologetically – like you should have been doing other EC’s. I suggest that when you get the chance for interview and essays, you emphasize it as your passion. As you are no doubt aware, The Guildhall – a graduate institution in nearby Plano that is affiliated with SMU – would be right up your alley.

u’ll get in

I would definitely include your mother’s passing and how it affected your grades in one of your essays.
