Yes, in addition both Michigan and K college provide enough to take care of room and board based upon our income.

With a 1550 SAT and that course load, your son is in a strong position for the LACs on his list. The 3.75 GPA might put UMich slightly out of reach for direct admit (especially with the budget constraint), but schools like Grinnell, Kenyon, and Oberlin love students with eclectic interests like math + classics + viola. The playwriting is a great differentiator too.
For the $30k budget, I would look hard at merit scholarships at mid-tier LACs. Denison, College of Wooster, and Kalamazoo College are all in the Midwest, offer generous merit for 1550+ scores, and have solid math and classics departments. Wooster especially rewards intellectual curiosity with their Independent Study program.
The physics camp and 9 plays performed is a unique combo. Make sure the essays lean into that creative-analytical duality. Admissions officers at LACs eat that up.

Agreed. I would just like to emphasize that when I posted upstream that DS had a good shot at Wesleyan, Hamilton and Bowdoin, it wasn’t because I thought the NESCACs were any less selective than his other choices, but that, as you stated, he seemed like the sort of candidate - strong across science and art - that they look for.
Note that this student is a high school senior who has completed his college applications. He presently will be receiving replies from the colleges named in the original post.

He was accepted to Colorado honors college. With Merit scholarship it is right at the edge of what we could afford. Does anyone know if you can negotiate with a college on merit?

Colorado as in CU or as in Colorado College?
Highly unlikely at a public college and CU mainly gives $25K over four years - or did.
At a private, more a chance but not a great one.
But the old adage, if you don’t try…..but you’ll want an appropriate strategy regardless, which may depend on the school.
Assuming you mean University of CO as it’s in your OP. Your S can ask his admissions officer (admissions handles incoming first year merit aid at most schools) but as an OOS student I wouldn’t expect much if anything. IMO the best way to ask is to say something like “I need X more and will attend” or “I need the all in COA to be X.” They will tell you if they can do that. Don’t do that if you aren’t serious about attending and/or are still waiting for more offers. Good luck.
