<p>Colleges (feel free to recommend a school): Vassar, Kenyon, Barnard, College of Wooster, Hobart and William, Beloit, SUNY Plattsburgh, SUNY New Paltz.</p>
<p>School: Rigorous, in the top one hundred public schools in America. </p>
<p>Average: 85 (we don’t do GPAs) with an upward trend. I had Bs and Cs throughout my freshman year in mediocre classes to straight As and a fairly rigorous course load in my senior year.</p>
<p>Tests: 29 (I plan to bump this). SAT IIs are pending. For APs, I got a 5 on Lang and Comp and a 5 on US History.</p>
<p>Senior Course Load: AP Studio in Art, AP Literature and Composition, AP Government and Politics, Film as Literature, Economics, Functions in Trigonometry (the second half of your standard Algebra II and Trig class), Latin III (I skipped Latin II entirely), and AP Environmental Science (I realize many people think this is a lax AP, please understand that it’s a jump for me since I was in remedial Biology prior to this course -yes, I skipped chem for the sake of my sanity).</p>
<p>Extras: President of local Great Books chapter (two years), Model UN delegate (two years), editor in chief of lit mag (three years), gen. editor of school newspaper/lifestyle magazine (four years), Social Action Vice President (I run all the community service/interfaith programs) of a local Jewish reform youth group (four years), classroom assistant at my synagogue in an Ethics Class for 7th-9th graders and an Art Class for all ages (seven years), and I’ve consistently participated in multiple international online writing communities (seven years).</p>
<p>Awards: Distinction in English in 11th grade, out of my entire class of 150+ kids. Tons of writing awards, some art awards and honors as a MUN delegate.</p>
<p>Experiences: In 10th grade, I lobbied in Washington DC through a leadership program with the National Movement for Reform Judaism. My essay, on LGBT rights in the workplace, was selected to be read to the entire program (300+ kids), and my state senator. In the summers of 10th and 11th grade I participated in Teenink’s NYC Young Writers Program and Kenyon’s Young Writers Program respectively.</p>
<p>Recs/Other Documents: My recs are stellar, they’ll be written by my favorite History teacher and the head of the English department. I’ll also have a creative writing/art supplement.</p>
<p>Something to keep in mind: A lot of the reason why my grades are mediocre is due to an unfortunate learning disorder (not ADD/ADHD), and 9th/10th grade immaturity in regard to handling my problems. I have since learned to better myself as a student, and I believe I have the intellectual capacity and drive to handle rigorous coursework. I suppose my only hope is that colleges will see beyond my grades and realize potential in the passions I have…believe me when I say I’ve worked very hard.</p>
