I will probibly go into Math and hopefully double major in international relations. I will most likely apply during the regular admission. Thanks

Just going off Brown admissions data, you’re probably just as competitive as anyone. However, GPA, EC’s, and test scores are only a portion of your application.

The fact is, no one outside the admissions committee can say anything for sure. Even accepted students, alumni, and other CCer’s say means bupkiss because no one knows what Brown is looking for in any given year. I encourage you to work on your application, to enjoy your senior year and to not worry about “probabilities” of getting into X school; at this level of admission rates, for Brown and other Ivies/top schools, there really is no predicting anything.

Thanks guys basically I will try to get good recommendations, essays, and do some more extra curriculars. Basically after that all I can do is pray. Ivies are long shots but I will never get in if I don’t apply

Nman, I wouldn’t sound so despondent. You’re in the ballpark, and will likely make the first-round cut. That said, you could really benefit from a memorable project that will make you stand out from the crowd of finalists.

You need to think about yourself as a product: how would you sell yourself in a 15-second radio spot? Because that’s exactly what will happen: your reader/advocate on the committee will have maybe 15 seconds to summarize your achievements and make a case as to why you deserve admission over the other fine “products.” I elaborate on this in Brown’s chance thread started by Clueless, a little way down the page.

Brown likes self-directed people because they are most likely to benefit from the Open Curriculum. I think you should skip random “just show up” volunteering this fall and start a volunteer project of your very own. You like sports. Can you do anything there? Start a little league team for the mentally handicapped? Raise money for uniforms and transport for an inner-city team of poor kids? Offer a free skills training seminar? You can, of course, associate with a larger organization, but the planning and leadership should come from you.

It doesn’t have to be about sports or even about volunteering, but it needs to be something that makes you stand out – something that can be summarized in 15 seconds and argued passionately by your advocate on the admissions committee.

Good luck!

Definitely sounds like a good idea. I know Brown is very into extra curriculars so I just have to leave admissions with something memorable. Thanks for the advice!

It looks to me like you have a better shot than the clear majority of the applicants - but, again, nothing’s for sure, so you’ll want to work hard on polishing your ECs. Keep up that 4.0, too; I’m so jelly!
