Chance

Applied to Harvard College and Princeton as well, just wanted to know what the people at the Princeton thread think. Thanks for chancing.

Large public high school in Illinois

Class Rank: 3/511 at end junior year, 5 or 6/492 after first semester senior year.

SAT: 730 CR, 790 Math, 800 Writing (80, 12) = 2320 single sitting

SAT II: 800 Math II, 790 US History, 750 Physics, all single sitting, and these are the only subjects I have ever taken

Extracurriculars: Um, the normal stuff you know. Math team, newspaper, work for the Chicago Tribune, into UFOs and enrolled in Hynek’s Center for UFO Studies. I love ufology and wish ufologists out there would get more respect for their academic endeavors. Econ club president. But really nothing toooooooo special for a Harvard

Awards: Intel STS semifinalist, Telluride Scholar, AMC school winner, Metro History Fair school, region, city, and state winner. Science fair school, region, city, and state gold medalist. Coca Cola semifinalist.

Summer: freshman year a two week program at Depaul University
sophomore year participated in the Telluride program six weeks
junior year wanted to continue with the Telluride, but decided to go for U of C’s
four week math program

Work: I work, don’t want to get into details about my work schedule.

You know, I think admission for these top ivy leagues is all a crap shoot, though I would appreciate any feedback I can get. Thanks.

This was an addendum I added to my Harvard post, thought it may be useful here.

"Oh yeah, forgot to talk about recommendations and essays. For the essays I wrote about a particular incident in my childhood, and I can’t quite remember what I wrote for the supplement. But there is the additional information section in the common app, and I wrote about ufology in that piece. Um, in terms of the recommendations, I think they are good, though I never had a chance to look at it. Recently, I got into U of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Honors program, and when I looked back at my UNC application, there was a statement to my counselor that her recommendation was going to play a big role in the selection of honor students. So I suppose my recommendations were pretty good.

And about work. Man, I will just say this. When I first started waiting tables, I hated that sh**. I thought it was degrading work. But today, after years working with people twice, three times, even four times my age in the kitchen, man, work was a life changing experience. That’s all I have to say about that. So for any freshman or sophomore students reading this, go out and get a job, and when you get yelled by the boss for the first time, when you make an embarrassing mistake for the first time, trust me, that’s good for you as a person."

as good of a chance as all other well qualified candidates … which means a crap shoot based on high number of other well qualified candidates

bumppppppp

i’d say you have a reasonable shot at it…all depends on destiny now…

hmmm good chances. you’ve got some pretty prestigious awards and unique interests.
btw…
I just did a problem in my statistics book about whether the average person who had an “intense experience” with UFOs also had an IQ that differed from 100 (the average for Americans).
It turns out they are just as smart (or smarter) than all the rest of us!

hahahaha floatingsaturn, thats actually pretty funny.

bumpppppppp

bump 10 char
