Chance?

GPA: 3.9 W
Class Rank: top 10%
All Honors/AP classes (minus one Algebra class junior year)
I failed Alg 2 Honors soph year, retook Alg 2 junior year and got an A
SAT: 1810
I got an 11 out of 12 on my essay

ECs - I worked as a poll worker for the past 3 elections in my town, Varsity tennis 4 years, Captain of my Mock Trial team for 2 years, Model UN delegate, ACADECA member, volunteered as a peer tutor, volunteered for my School Beautifation Project and I organized a mock election for my whole school. I am also the VP of my school’s NHS chapter.

I know failing a class is horrible, and I don’t have any excuse for failing. That’s what worries me about my profile.

NEU doesn’t look at your writing section, as far as I know, so having an 11 on the essay won’t really count… what were your M and CR scores?

i think because it was an honors class that you failed, it might not look as bad on your application as you think. you did get an A in it the next year, after all.

but i’m not really good at chancing people, i’m an international ^^

btw: I also failed, but I failed a whole year. (pretty common in germany, as you can’t just fail one class until the last two years of school) what matters is that your grades are great now, don’t lose hope just because of one minor setback!

Haha, thanks.

I got a 670 in Critical Reading and a 600 in math.

I don’t really regard failing a class as the end of the world. Or rather, I don’t think it should be considered a complete no-no for admissions counselors. The self-realization I had after failing a class could never be taught to or artifically created by a person who cruised through high school.

same here. i failed because i really did absolutely nothing for school. didn’t take notes, didn’t do my homeork, let alone study. when i failed it was like a wake up call: this can’t stay like this. once i actually started doing my homework and studying it was just so easy to get average grades, and with a little more effort i was in the top 10% of my class.

i’m not one of those kid’s who was pushed by their parents (well, i was pushed and they made me feel like a complete failure when i failed school, but their pushing wasn’t what made me work hard) and had straight A’s all their lives, but has never gone out and had fun. i have a life, and i work hard in school because it’s what i want, not because it was what my parents told me i have to do.

NU does look at the essay portion, that’s why they require the SAT scores to be reported out of 2400.

Your chances are moderate-high.

I think that you are definitely a match for Northeastern. I had similar stats as you do and got in. It depends on your major though.

which majors are they more selective for?

I’m going into Political Science…
