Chances/Advice for transferring

Currently I am a freshman at W&M and I am pretty sure I want to attempt to transfer.
Right now I have a 4.0 and am on track to end the semester with it. I only spend about an hour on homework a day and am feeling no stress or academic motivation here (a very different experience than my peers are having). Academic interests are in Econ, Mathematics, and Political Science.I like the college enough, but I can’t say that I was excited to come here this fall. My dream school was Northwestern, but I got waitlisted. Would I be foolish to try and go for it as a transfer student? Also looking at UMich, WashU, Georgetown, and Berkeley. For reference, sat scores were 2190 and ACT 34. I’m in multiple service organizations on campus and hold an elected position. I’m hopeful for my chances, but is it silly to even try? Please give any advice you may have.

I was in your exact shoes my freshmen year. I wasn’t thrilled to attend the university I did and knew I was going to transfer within the first 3 months of the semester. It’s not that unusual and you should absolutely give your dream school another chance. I applied to my dream school (UMich) as a transfer and was accepted, so you’re definitely not silly for thinking about applying to Northwestern. In fact, from my own experience, I found getting accepted to schools as a transfer is a little bit easier (with the exception of the Ivies and UCs if you’re out-of-state). I applied and was accepted to schools that were considered a “reach” for me in HS. Go for it and best of luck!
