Chances, Advice

So, here’s the scenario:
I am currently a biochem major at Occidental college, applying to Penn, Columbia, and Duke. I have the following stats:

College GPA = 4.00 (with a demanding courseload)
HS GPA = 3.98uw / 5.4w (salutatorian)
SATI = 790m, 750v, 710w
SATII = 800 x 3 (math 2c, chem, hebrew)
12 APs: ten 5’s. two 4’s

Most significant awards:National Merit Scholar, National AP Scholar, Goldwater Fellowship Nominee (app pending), a bunch of scholarships

Main college activities: chemistry research (presented + won awards), debate president

I should get two very good recommendations: one from my research advisor, and the other from an English professor (to demonstrate well-roundedness)

Before getting my green card two months ago, I had been an int’l student. Now that I am a regular applicant, I want to go to a great school.
Assuming above average essays, what do you think are my chances to get into at least one of these three schools?
I really want to transfer to a more rigorous, world-class school, so your opinion really matters. Also, do you think I should also apply to Dartmouth despite its renown for humanities, not sciences?

Help, anyone?

Hi,

Clearly you have great chances although these are all very difficult schools to get into so you never know. I would add Northwestern as a safety of sorts as it tends to be much more friendly, in terms of accepting transfers, than the Ivies. Dartmouth does incredibly well with grad school placement and in my opinion offers the best overall experience for transfers but its very difficult to get into. Worth adding, but it will be tough.

True, but I’m not sure if Northwestern is such a step up from Occidental.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?

I’d say Northwestern is a slight step up from Oxy. I think you have high chances at any of the schools you are applying to, but you must remember that there are many other people out there with your stats. You have some cool extra curricular stuff, so that should help you stand out along with all those great awards.

How is Oxy by the way? I’d really like to go there next year (english major).

Hey lreds4life, I’m currently a student at Oxy, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me! =)
