Chances/Aid Question

Currently a junior, so I still have quite a bit of time.

State: Tennessee
GPA: 3.77 UW, school does not weigh.
ACT: 33 (30E,35M,31R,34S)
Class Rank: Rankings not out yet but probably top 10%
AP Classes: Currently in Chem, next year in Bio, Calculus, English(maybe one more)
College Classes: Community College offers Dual Enrollment, taking History 2020 right now(passed 2010 with an A)

Extra-cirriculars:

In School:
HOSA(health occupations thing) - 11th
Will more than likely be inducted into NHS next year(only year my school offers it)

Out of School:
Junior Volunteer Firefighter. This takes up a lot of my time and is the main reason I don’t do many in-school ECs.

Another thing that takes up my time is a job. I have to work to be able to use my car, which is pretty much a necessity. I work 15-18 hours a week while we are in school and 25-30 while we are out.

I am planning to go into Engineering(either Aerospace, Chemical, or Nuclear) and want to go to school in the Southeast.

Another question, how is GT with need-based Aid? I think my EFC is around 3,500, but we probably couldn’t afford that. And does aid also include room & board, books, etc?

If I am leaving out anything just ask. Thanks in advance for your time.

In. GPA is right there, ACT is way above average.

Yeah, you’re fine on admissions. In regards to financial aid - you need to take that up with the Fin Aid Office. There are too many factors that play into determining your situation, so you’ll need to fill out some paperwork and talk to them. I know it’s not the most helpful answer, but it’s the honest answer.

Tech is reasonable in terms of Need-based aid. 96% of students identified as having a “need” received some financial aid last year. 82% of students that had need had their need met through scholarships and grants. If you have questions about whether you qualified as being in “need” (remember, it’s not just that you think you need money - there’s an actual definition for need based on the FAFSA), and what options are available to you, contact the financial aid office (on Tuesday - Monday is a holiday).

Thanks both of you, I now have another question but I didn’t think it merited a whole new topic.

Does GA Tech require the ACT writing? I’ve taken the ACT 3 times(no writing) and really don’t want to take it again.

I have a 4.12 GPA
My SAT is 1940

Math - 750
CR - 540
Writing - 650
