Plan on majoring in Finance

UMD is my dream school, what do you think are my chances and would it help if i majored in something not as popular as finance and then transfered to finance if accepted? Thanks

Really need to work on your SATs…consider a tutor (a classmate who has done well on SATs may also be able to give you tips for preparing). (or look up Xiggi’s method here on cc).

You’ve already got a good chance, and your background gives you a good boost. However, UMD is pretty #'s driven, and higher SAT scores would open more opportunities for you.

IMHO you are on the fringe…moving at 3 and spending your entire academic life in the states does not negate the SAT…moving at 12, would be different.

Sorry, if it upsets you, but only a few days ago someone posted the avg gpa was 3.9+, you never want to be below the avg. I would still submit that internship with Coke is a feather in your cap, and use it for your essay

Are you in-state? I got in with 3.24 GPA and 1600 SAT last year. I didn’t have much extra-curim either. However, they deferred my admission to spring semester 2010 though.

something quick to add is that they review the applications major blind, meaning when you apply, you are first reviewed for admission to the University, and after that, then they’ll send your application to Smith school. So it doesn’t matter if you put finance or not, that won’t affect your app to the school, if you don’t get finance, you’ll just be admitted as undecided.
