chances and social life at CMU

Hi,

I was wondering if you can give me my chances given my stats below, and also comment on the social life at CMU. Is it true that a lot of people are excessively nerdy at CMU, or will I still be able to find some people who would rather watch the pittsburgh steelers or catch a movie than study for the tests so that they can screw everyone over by setting the curve? Mind you, I’m not a big partier, and I will never smoke, or drink, but I just want to hang out with people that are fun, intelligent, clean (as in dont do drugs), and maybe even some cute girls winks lol. But seriously, can I still do that here?

So without further ado, here are my stats and some personality traits of mine:
stats:
*I am an Asian Indian Male
*From a competitive public high school in Oregon: Beaverton High School, which was also rated the best AP school in Oregon, so yeah, its a smart school.
*student body at school = 500+

The Numbers/ECs
*Freshman year:
4.0 with honors in 2 classes for both semesters

*Sophomore Year:
3.8125 overall for both semesters
(Bs in AP Chem 1st sem, Precalc 2nd sem, Social Studies 1st sem)

*Junior Year (projected)
Human Anat/Phys-A,A
IB Bio HL 1-A,A
Spanish 3-A,A
IB Calculus-A, A
IB Psychology-A,A (might get 1 B)
Team Sports-A
IB English-B,B (might get 1 A)
IB Tok 1-B

IN SUMMARY: I should finish high school with around 3.75 or 3.8 UW GPA, but I’ll do what ever I can to prevent that from happening. If I go down in flames, then I’ll end up with a 3.7.

*class rank UW right now = 38/515. Weighted = 30/515 (will go up because not many kids have taken hard classes yet)
*IB Diploma Candidate (to be)
*Varsity tennis 4 years (will have 4)
*Science Team 4 years (will have 4)
*World Quest Trivia 4 years (will have 4)
*Science Club Treasurer (1 year)
*Science Club VP (2 years)
*Math Club (4 years) (VP 2 years)
*Speech and Debate Team (2 years) (I hear that I should be able to get a leadership position next year)
*Model UN (2 years) (might get ambassador, a leadership position, for both years)
*Portland Youth Philharmonic (will have 3 years)
*Mathfest Algebra 2 1st place freshman year
*OIMT Participant Fresh Year
*Mathfest Participant (will have 4 years)
*Oregon Museum of Science and Industry Rising Star Program (will have 150-175 volunteer hours done)
*Mathcounts Tutor (about 50+ volunteer hours)
*Right now I get about a 1920-2050 on the SAT, 26-30 on ACT according to Practice Tests for SAT, and the PLAN (it’s like the PSAT for SAT except the ACT version) on ACT, but I’m shooting for at least a 2100 on the SAT and 32 on the ACT. Don’t count on me getting a 2100 or a 32 because its not going to happen as far as I can tell right now

What I like/Who my friends usually are:
-Science (esp biology, or anything related to medicine)
-Sports (esp tennis, basketball, and football) and playing sports
-Watching movies {esp teen comedies (ie American Pie, Eurotrip), action, DISNEY MOVIES lol (seriously they aren’t that bad), or actual normal comedies that are more mature such as austin powers}
-Doing physical activities
-Hot girls (but then again, who doesn’t?)
-I can’t hang out with people that are super nerds or don’t like to do anything besides study or play video games. I can GET ALONG with them or anyone for that matter just fine, but I can’t be BFFs with them.
^I hope that provided some information about me, so do you think I would be able to have a social life at CMU?

Where did you find the time for all your activities with IB? Fortunre cookie says: “Your social life will be OK if you are social.”

Which school will you apply to? Assuming you get good SAT scores, I think you’d have a good chance at any of the schools with those grades. You’ve already got a really impressive transcript. Keep it up.

On a side note: if you school is the best AP school in Oregon, why are you taking IB classes? ;)

How did I find my time? I made time and multi-tasked (ie during speech and debate I sneak in some homework when I’m not being helped or working on stuff with the coach)

You bring up a good point. This actually says quite a bit about our school because we are certified as both IB and AP schools. So now you really have to understand how competitive our school is becuase my graduating class is supposed to be the smartest of all-time due to our mean state test scores being the highest, and we won best AP school with a “dumber” class (the only real bright spot was one amazing student with a 1600 old, 4.0 in IB classes, NMSQT finalist, All-district soccer, president of every club he was part of and the school, etc) and on top of that, we have kids taking IB classes as well. So yes its possible, because from the wink I can suspect that you guys think I’m lying.

Haha, no I didn’t think you were lying. It was just a little amusing that you stated your school was the top AP school in Oregon, but you’ve only taken IB classes.

By the certification police, I presume.

i think u have a decent chance getting into any of the schools in CMU.

social life here will be satisfying to you. if you are normally social, then you are among the most of the kids in cmu and will have lots of chances to hang out during the weekend. if you are extremely antisocial, then you won’t be the only one (about 1 in every 5 CS kids won’t come out from their room…but others do and party). if you are a party animal, then as long as you do greek life or in CFA, you’ll always find some party going on. There is also UPitt 10 minutes away from campus…

LOL.

Well you’ll find kids of all types of social backgrounds here at CMU

Some are never in the rooms while some never leave…

Video games are a big thing here (well duh)

Like kanagawajin said - UPitt is 10 minutes away if you ever want any good ol’ fashioned college fun…oh and there are more girls over there too ^^

Also there are lots of frat parties and whatnot here, if you’re into that kind of scene.

There’s also the sometimes-nice bus system that takes you to places… like shopping, movies, going to restaurants, running around for no reason…exploring Pittsburgh. It’s not a bad city.

I’m pretty sure that you won’t be bored here, with the workload during the week and the oh-so-great-time-to-relax weekends.

sunset? jesuit?
