Chances at a Transfer to Vanderbilt, Emory, Tufts, etc

I am a current student at Connecticut College (A small liberal arts college/NESCAC)

Given the school’s smaller size, limited class offerings in my prospective majors (Art History/Finance), among other issues – I am applying to transfer schools. I am wondering what chances are with my top choices:
Vanderbilt
Emory
Tufts
Notre Dame
UVA
NYU
William & Mary
And a few other similar ones

My Stats:
3.7-3.8 College GPA
(And due personal reasons I’m hoping to explain, and despite an upward trajectory my final 2 years, my hs was nonetheless horrible) 3.0 :frowning:

ECs:
-I attended a top 20 boarding school and played prep basketball all four years, Varsity Track & Field Thrower, experienced in MMA fighting, and competed in Olympic weightlifting my Junior and Senior Years. As well as AAU Basketball (team captain), ranked 2nd in IL.

-Had passion project with art that has been exhibited in Chicago-Area Museums, co-founder/leader of my school’s chapter promoting equality in Women’s education, working experience at a 5-star hotel/restaurant, paid consulting internship (2 summers) in Chicago, funded/organized a clothing drive shipping clothes (quarterly) abroad.

Happy to provide more info regarding my app but completely unsure how my high-school GPA will affect my chances. Compared to what I’ve seen, I’m not sure how competitive I am. The school I’m going to now def is rigorous and challenges me, solid school and love profs, but feel a change is unfortunately necessary.

How many semesters have you completed at Conn College? Did you apply to any schools on your list as a senior in HS?

All the schools on your list are reachy, so if you for sure want to transfer you will need to add some with higher acceptance rates.

Will you be applying for financial aid?

Hi!

To answer your questions:

-I am currently a freshmen applying to be a sophomore, therefore only completing one full semester so far

-I have not applied to any of these schools in the past (originally thought small lib arts was what I was looking for)

-No, I will not be applying for any financial aid.

Look at the transfer pages for each and common data set section D2 for each. Vandy likes Sophs…that I know…although still only takes 1/7th. You might add WUSTL…but absolutely less competitive schools too. PS - Vandy, as an example, doesn’t have an undergrad b school nor does Tufts. So finance offerings would be slim.

good luck.

Would be interesting & helpful to know the names of the other schools to which you plan to apply as a transfer student.

Sure! My list is definitely not set in stone, but here’s my other schools

BU
BC
Villanova
Wake Forest
Chapel Hill
UMich

I’m hoping to cast a wide net of schools in hopes one or two would take a chance on me despite the hs grades

“Set in stone.”

You should be admitted to BU.

I was about to suggest Villanova, but it was already on your list.

My top two recommendations for you are Fairfield University in Connecticut and SMU in Dallas, Texas.

When I read that you find Conn College challenging and rigorous, my first thought was that Emory might be a bit too much for you.

Vanderbilt tends to be transfer friendly. Your chances may be relatively good there.

But Vandy suffers from the same issue that OP has at the current institution.

My opinion…your list is VERY top heavy. In my opinion, casting a wide net means applying to schools with varying degrees of selectivity. In my opinion, with the exception of maybe Villanova, these are all reach schools.

Applying as a sophomore transfer means that the colleges WILL be using your high school record in part.

I don’t understand your list if you want to study finance…do you want to major in it? Minor?

Vandy only has a business minor, if that’s ok you should put in an app there. But it’s still a reach, as are all the schools on the list.

For BC, UVA, Villanova, Wake Forest, UNC, UMich, it is highly unlikely you will get into the business schools. Is that ok with you?

I would consider adding WUSTL and SMU as others have suggested. Maybe also Santa Clara, U Miami and Bentley for better chances, because if you are sure you want to transfer you have to expand your list to include schools with higher acceptance rates.

Is your former prep school guidance counselor helping you with transfer apps? If not, you might consider that.

Lastly, being full pay will be an advantage at all the schools on the list.
