<p>It’s very easy to figure out where you are by what honor roll you make.</p>
<p>When you are in 11th grade you are shown a bar graph of the averages for kids the year before and in 12th you see the one for your grade. It’s not hard to figure out where you are, but there is no official number.</p>

<p>sorry, that was really confusing. there’s no ranking, colleges only get a chart showing the averages for each class. They’ll see that 30% get a 4.5 and 28% get a 5, but not much more than that.</p>
<p>I see. I suppose it would, as the GPAs at Andover could differ by thousandths of a point. I’ve been reading The Overachievers lately. It’s very good. Some of the scenes are a bit dramatic/over-the-top. I never realized how cut-throat high school and college competition is. </p>

<p>Yes, our grades are rounded to the nearest .5 for GPA and you only get integers for a single class (no +s or -s), so it’s hard to distinguish between GPAs and give out deciles since everyone will be very close in the 4-5 range.
I don’t feel that the competition was very cut-throat when I first got here, but now that I’ve started the college admissions process I’m beginning to sense it a lot more. Some kids are paranoid over GPA, but many are not.</p>
<p>Thank god someone on this forum is reading that book! I love The Overachievers, and now that you’re reading it I can stop posting that people should read it. :D</p>
<p>I read that book about six months ago, along with The Price of Admission–another book that people should read if they are interested in the unfairness in the college admissions process.</p>
<p>I looked briefly at The Price of Admission, but they insulted fencing, so I now I don’t like it anymore.
