Chances at Bowdoin and Middlebury

I’m only a sophomore, but I’m a little worried about my chances at some of my top choice schools (Bowdoin and Middlebury) after what happened to me this year.

I missed the first 2 months of school because I was in the hospital and eventually ended up getting a liver transplant. Now, my teachers have exempted me from most assignments, but my GPA after this semester is probably going to be somewhere between 3.2-3.5. Last year I had a 3.85. I think I might write my admissions essay about my transplant experience.

I know I have time to bring my GPA back up, but my extracurriculars will be affected also. I won’t be able to volunteer at the zoo like I have been doing for the past 2 years due my immunosuppressed condition.

I would just like to know what some of you guys think.

just make sure you don’t write it with a hint of ANY sympathy

I was planning on writing it on how it changed me. I now want to be a doctor.

I’m in IB, 2 AP classes this year, did volunteer trail work in Alaska this summer (192 hours), and I’m from Kansas.

In general, what do you think of my chances or do you have any ideas on what I can do to better my chances at these schools?
