Hi guys

I’d be damn happy if you guys could chance me at Brown, Columbia and UChicago, my three dream schools. I’m just in Yr 10 but knowing what I have to improve on would be nice. KEEP IN MIND THE DIFFERENCE IN ACADEMICS AND THAT ECS ARE NOT AS PROMINENT HERE.

SCHOOLS:

Brown
Columbia
UChicago
UPenn
Stanford
NYU
Vanderbuilt

You’re Top 30% in your class–regardless of where you’re at, that stat is horrendous. According to USNews, 96% of entrants to Harvard are at the top 10% of their high school class. In fact, your school doesn’t look advanced at all, considering that you might get 4’s on the core math and science tests (Bio, Physics C, Calc BC). You would think that a “top” student at the “top” school would at least pull off a 5, eh? Your “projected” SAT is only average for top schools. You tell us that “ECS ARE NOT AS PROMINENT HERE.” Well, snap to reality. They’re prominent in the US. Since you’re applying here, not having good EC’s will KILL you.

Brown - reach
Columbia - high reach
UChicago - reach
UPenn - high reach
Stanford - high reach
NYU - low reach
Vanderbilt - low reach

I would say that your choices are all reaches. your dream schools are especially high reaches. you haven’t even taken your sat yet, so don’t bother projecting anything. same goes for ap, you might not get 4’s or 5’s. but your ec’s are great. so get very good grades junior year and you’ll maybe get into the 20%-15%, then your chanes will be a bit better.

Junior/Senior year, I am willing to bet my grades will hit 15% because I’m @ 30% only because I goofed off in freshman year. And my ECs, put in the context of an average Singaporean are excellent. However, I do understand that I will have to work harded. And the fact that I might not get 4/5 I think that’s out of the question since 70% of the canidates from my school’s junior batch had 5s on the Chem and Math papers.

And by the way, we’re the first non-international school here to take the APs.

Yeah don’t get discouraged…your most important high school years are ahead of you so get ready to work your ass off.
