Chances at BU

Brandeis is my first choice, but seeing that my stats fall a little short of the Brandeis average, I’m also applying to BU non-ED and I would love if someone knowledgeable could tell me my chances.

Hello! I’m an American to-be college freshman in a reputable French university. Up until this point I attended school in the United States.

White, Jewish
Public high school in midwest
Current student at public international university studying modern language and literature

Class Rank 17 out of 202 (top 10 percent)
SAT 680 writing 670 critical reading 530 math (I’ve only taken it once!)
SAT II 700 French (taken once like 2 years ago…I’m pretty sure I can get a perfect score now since I am completely bilingual), will take English literature this fall
AP English (4), AP French (5)… (my school only offered a few APs)
Mostly all honors/college prep classes
ECs (from high school)
-Young Democrats
-Drama Club

-Chess club
-FBLA
-nursing home volunteer
-national honor society
-French club

-Democrats abroad
-The American Club of Lyon
-Jewish youth group
-Ballet
-probably some volunteer work as well…

What I would like to know is:

 1. If none of the above changed, what is the likelihood of getting into Boston?

You’ll probably get into Brandeis and BU, but I recommend you take the SAT again and try to raise that math up a bit.

BU is a good match, likely if not guaranteed, assuming you’re applying to CAS. Requirements and standards vary from school to school of the university.

Thank you both for your imput! Yes, I am applying to CAS.

Agree that you need to bring up your SATs for a sure shot at BU. All else looks good but they are right that it depends on which BU program. With a 1333 average SAT at BU you can assume that some colleges within BU are higher and some lower.

I’m retaking the SAT I on Dec. 2, and, given the last time I tested was the end of my junior year, I’m thinking those numbers will be a lot better.

You should be fine then. Have you visited both schools and seen the new Hillel house at BU?.

The new Hillel is insane. For my why BU, I put a lot of focus as to how that shaped my decision to apply ED :)
