Chances at Duke-HILARIOUS JOKE WITHIN!!!!

I’m a white, upper middle class male from Illinois. here are my stats:

GPA: 4.81 (out of 5.3), which puts me in the top 10.5% of my class at a very competitive school. Would be 5.0 out of 5.3 and top 5-6% without freshman year.

old SAT: 710 v, 720 m
new SAT: 750 v, 690 m, 790 w
ACT: 33

ECs:
Editor of paper 9th and 10th grade
Editor-in-chief 12th grade
Co-head Democrat club
Co-head Latin club (not hispanic club, i mean the Roman language)
Amnesty International (member)
Natl. Honors Society, blah blah blah
Silver medalist Natl. Latin Exam

And, as a bonus for anyone reading these, here’s a little joke that I think is funny, but you may not:

Best pickup line ever: Does this smell like chloroform to you?

To anyone who has already seen this joke, I apologize. I’ve got nothing else.(suggestions welcome for my other chances threads)

hello,

i dont wanna accuse u of anything, but in your another post (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=89005), u didnt even mention Duke.

well. i am saying this cuz duke(and all other top notch schools) wants students who really want to come here.
u have great scores, good GPA, real nice ECs, but to up your chances at getting into one or two of those reach-reach colleges(perhaps except northwestern, georgetown, and -maybe- U of chicago), i would suggest, make a better list (like 2 reaches, 2-3 matches, 2 safeties) then put your 110% into those college. dont spread your energy too thin.

btw, some colleges on your list are very different from others. what did you look for when you made that list?

bump…

I’d put your chances at a slight reach right now. Not really enough info, though! Essays count for a great deal, as do teacher recs. The rigor of your coursework is also very important. All of these should be considered before evaluating your chances.

Pratt or Trinity? Your scores are low for Pratt, but roughly on-target for Trinity.

Also, a slightly better pick up line:
“Are you from Jamaica? You’re Jamaican me crazy.”
Laugh. You know you want to.

Rigor of courses:
2 honors (out of 5 classes) freshman year
4 out of 5 sophomore
All APs and honors junior and senior year

Ah-much more helpful. If there’s any possible way you might bump up to the top 10%, I’d say your chances are pretty good. Write a thumpin’ good essay and have great recs, and your chances are very good.

Just so you know, don’t worry about an interview. They don’t count at Duke AT ALL.

what’s the joke about?
