I am currently a freshmen at a private institution ranked #190-200 in national universities. I applied to the school because of my faith but realized I really wanted to go to a school that provided a good education. I want to transfer to Georgetown or USC as a sophomore. What are my chances and what can I do to improve it?

I currently have All A’s at my university. Hoping to transfer as a Sophomore for Fall 2019 to a better school. what can I do improve my chances at transferring to these schools?

If your writing is strong, you should have as good a chance as anyone else. Both universities are competitive; many applicants with similar scores to you. What matters is how you differentiate yourself. Try to go beyond your religion in your writing and get as much work/internship experience as possible.

I can say only one thing for certain: best way to differentiate yourself will be your writing.

As far as chances are concerned, I think you already know them. What are the transfer acceptance rates for these schools, respectively? I’d think around 20%. So, you have a ~20% chance of getting accepted to either USC or GU, and a 64% chance of getting accepted to neither (1-0.2=0.8 [chance of not getting accepted to one school]^2= 0.64 [chance of getting accepted to neither]).

Think about it. If you apply to a good school, you must be a good student: logic follows that other applicants are also good students. Thus, your scores/grades alone will not get you admitted to USC/GU. Everyone has those scores. It’s all about your individual characteristics and how they differentiate you form the flock. Hope this helps, and keep on hoping.
