Taking Pre-College Course at GWU for two weeks this summer.

Peer Reccomendation from the Sec-Gen of WAMUNC (GW’s MUN Conference and the most profitable student-run event)- good friend of mine and former counselor at Georgetown MUN Program- everyone she’s written rec’s for has gotten in.

GW is my top choice and it would be a dream come true to get in ED I.

Very much yes to getting in early decision. As hawk mentioned you might want to just apply to Columbian then transfer to the SMPA… no reason at all to apply to it and risk being denied to the university.

You should actually apply to both. Even if you don’t get admitted to SMPA, your Columbian application would be considered separately- there’s nothing to lose.

Double check me on this because I am out a few years, but SMPA is part of Colombian, and your main ap will be to Columbian with a supplement to SMPA. So that’s all you have to do.

Update: Admissions to SMPA does not define admissions to GW according to my admissions rep. Now have 1940 SAT- 670 Reading, 650 Writing, and 620 Math. I just interviewed two weeks ago and (hopefully) it went well. Do you think I have any better of a shot?

Use Columbian as your second-choice on the application, even if you’re denied to SMPA—you can do an internal transfer later on. In terms of your overall application, I think your application is competitive. I cannot say it is a guarantee, but it certainly seems like you would have a good shot of being admitted.

From the admissions website: "Do you love journalism? Are you fascinated by politics? High school seniors applying to the George Washington University may simultaneously apply to study either journalism and mass communications or political communication, and become part of the School of Media and Public Affairs. Indicate your wish to major in journalism or political communication on the GW application and write an essay explaining your ambitions. The application process is selective, but if accepted, you will be guaranteed a spot in SMPA as a freshman. For more, contact the GW Admissions Office.

Not sure? Once on campus for a year, sophomores may apply for either of the SMPA majors whether or not they applied as high school seniors."

The application has changed for this year so now you apply specifically to SMPA as your school of choice w/ a second choice school (although for me it is Columbian)
