<p>don’t see much leadership in your ECs. nothing stands out. i’m assuming you are asian with the korean biology thingy. if that’s so, you don’t really “break the mold”, with the exception of lacrosse (are you going to be captain/MVP senior year? if not, one sport for 2/3 years isn’t that impressive)</p>

If I’m so illegible that I get rejected to all of those HPSM, what kinda kids go to these kinds of school?

<p>I think what people are saying is that you are a very reasonable candidate for all of your schools, but you need some matches (maybe Berkeley) and safeties. The sad fact is that the colleges to which you are applying rejects thousands of outstanding students each year. </p>

<p>Read the story of andison, I think the thread is called “picking up the pieces”. It concerns an outstanding young man, perfectly reasonable candidate for any of the top schools, who applied only to highly selective schools and was shut out come April.</p>

<p>Any of thses colleges will essentially give an automatic admit to an academic superstar. The problem is that grades and test scores don’t come close to making one an academic superstar. A while ago MIT estimated that there were ~300 superstars applying to colleges each year. That is not 300 applying to MIT, that is 300 total applying anywhere in the world. These people are so far beyond high school students that grades and test scores are largely irrelevant. On the other hand, there are many thousands of people with great grades and test scores. So that merely serves to put someone in the running. </p>

<p>If you are a recruitable athlete for the D1 schools (they have a lacrosse team and the coach thinks you will be a starter) then you are in.</p>
