Recommendation:

  • English teacher who had me freshman year and has been my journalism advisor for all four. She called me the most effective student leader she has known to date, said I have unmatched empathy, am uncommonly reflective, and that I am someone who understands the power of words and diction so much so that I can not only use them effectively but can teach others.
  • History teacher who had me freshman year for honors history, sophomore year for AP U.S. History (got a 5 on exam, did great in the class), had me for a leadership elective junior year, and is the student council advisor which means we have worked on a lot of stuff together. He said things like, “I don’t know anyone with more talents than her,” and “with all the success she. has, she does it without ego.”
  • Guidance Counselor:
Talked about how I love to learn and how I have looked outside of what my high school offers for courses that interest me.A lot of nice things about me being humble, compassionate, and someone my peers look up to.
  • Track Coach:
Talked about how I Brough a team that was once separated by distance runners and sprinters together. Talked about how I have worked harder than any athlete he has ever coached in his 31 years of coaching and have had the most success more quickly than he has ever witnessed. Talked about my determination and also how I am a team player first.

Interview:
I met my interviewer before applying and we had a really nice long conversation and he sent in a rec before the application deadline that talked about his impression of me.

I mean, if I were an admissions officer at an Ivy League school, I’d accept you. Problem is, I’m not an admissions officer at an Ivy League school

However, you didn’t mention your GPA – assuming it’s probably close to a 4.0?? Also, how do you know what your teachers said about you? Furthermore, I would make sure you have good essays and everything, since that can really be a deal breaker if you don’t have any other hooks.

Your ECs seem good and so do your SAT score, class rank, etc…I would just apply and see what happens! Best of luck!!

'You haven’t mentioned what AP/scores or subject tests, or your possible major. This post makes a lot about your titles and LoRs, but the primary challenge is your own self presentation in the app and supps. That’s not just a resume of max APs, ECs/titles. It’s what you show of yourself, your thinking, perspective, and more. And your understanding of what these colleges want and look for.

Did you look at what these targets want? (Not just in terms of stats and glory.) Have you taken the course spread they recommend? It’s generally not freshman year teachers they want to hear from, but more recent, rigorous classes. Are you aware of the sort of attributes they seek for the community, what makes a good essay?

And which Ivies? They aren’t all the same. Tell us more.
