Chances at J-Schools

The only place I’ve ever really considered is Missouri, but I was wondering if I had a shot at any of the other reputable J-schools.

I have a really good hook. I’m not going to say what it is, but it’s a hook.

My Recs will come from my Channel One mentor, my newspaper adviser and I’m debating on using one from a Missouri alumni (but only for Mizzou application). It seems pretty gimmicky to me and I don’t want that. I also have one from another mentor.

I know my GPA is low, my weighted GPA is 3.5… I know that doesn’t add much.

What do you guys think? Sorry this is drawn out!

whats the hook tell me tell me tell me! (im also VERY interested in Journalism schools - have you thought at all about Medill?)

kid,
i am a missouri alumnus both BJ and MA with a brother and many friends on the faculty there. out of state admissions are extremely selective but Dean Mills appreciates the value of “hooks” if big donor connections is what you mean.

were i you i would apply to the very best j-programs in state. can you get into UCB? if not, here’s a very fine trio of programs at state universities: san jose, san diego, fullerton. in fact, the mizzou dean was a cal state professor prior.

medill is excellent as well but much more expensive than missouri. some regard these as the best two programs in the nation.
