ECs: Piano for 7 years, played in many recitals locally, a few at the Grand Opera House
competed nationally in the Technology Student Assosiation
Varsity soccer
participate heavily in groups such as Interact (a group dedicated to doing many community service projects) and Invisible children (dedicated to helping the children that are taken from their homes in Uganda and forced to serve in the LRA)

i know i should have a lot more ECs but i’m not very athletic, and it’s hard to find community service projects around my area, or even places i can volunteer

hey i’m in IB too! what are your HL’s? guessing math and science…

JHU: based on SAT it’s a match… but without your GPA it’s hard to tell
Ren: low match… again it’s hard to tell without GPA

your EC’s are ok compared to mine: then again, everything’s ok compared to me :P

chance back please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/837589-new-blue-without-clue.html

Thanks, my GPA is currently at 3.22 UW, but i’m trying to bring it up to a 3.5 by the end of this year, i slacked of a lot my freshman year and i definitely regret it.

and my HLs are Bio, History, and English, not math, surprisingly

Math HL is something else anyway… well you’re GPA makes things harder (seriously not trying to be mean, I definitely relate, in fact, I’m worse than you) but at the same time, IB is supposed to mean a lot to colleges… yet at my school, our college counselor is very vague on whether or not IB makes much of a difference, sometimes I wish I had just taken AP’s instead :P

I’m English, History and Bio too… weird.

Yeah, my GPA is really hurting right now, i’m afraid it’s going to be what really brings me down for a lot of schools i want to attend. Also, I’ve always been told that IB looks really good for college, but I’ve also heard that it only looks good to colleges who recognize it, which would make sense, so in the end, we could have gone through this very difficult program just to find out that the college we want to go to doesn’t even look at IB.

exactly how I feel, and IB is too hard to be ignored! :P

haha definitely, way too many sleepless nights

i’d say low reach/match for JHU but you still have a decent shot. your ECs are okay but not extremely impressive to make up for your SAT score. (don’t worry neither are mine) and i’d say match for Rennsselaer.
please chance me back

thank you!
please everyone, Johns Hopkins is my dream school, i would absolutely love to attend.
i’m just wondering, if you don’t think i can make it, what i should do to try and make myself more appealing to them, i’m also planning on applying ED, if that makes my chances any better.

If you’re applying E.D. then you definitely have a stronger chance. Oh I just realized you’re only a junior, you’ve got plenty of time left. raise you grades as high as humanly possible, show as much of an upward trend as possible (i’m talking 3.9 range, but just a upward trend of .2 points is good). Retake the SAT’s multiple times, get your scores up to the 700 range, and expand on your piano EC. As in, take every opportunity possible for it. Keep up community service and add in another club if possible (I really shouldn’t be talking, and I know how ridiculously hard IB is). if you have a certain career in mind, try your hardest to score and internship at a company/office/etc that revolves around that career (i.e. if you want to go pre-med, try to intern at a hospital as an orderly). If you can’t get an internship, find a club that deals with it and get involved in it, to the point of holding a leadership position. Work with a teacher in your high school on college essays and make them unique and personal. Basically just get your grades up a bit and expand on your EC’s. You already have a good chance, just get your grades up a bit and you can almost count yourself in.
