Chances at large schools!

Hello everyone. I’m going to be a senior this upcoming year. I’ll try to keep this quick because I don’t feel like typing a whole lot, but these are the schools i’m looking at/have looked at and want some feedback as to whether or not you’d think I’d get in.
oh yeah, thinking about Mech. Engineering

University of Maryland - College Park
University of Delaware
Penn State University - University Park
University of Connecticuit - Storrs (main campus)
North Carolina State University *** Favorite ***
Florida State University

I live in Rochester, NY (upstate NY)
3.7 weighted GPA (High school doesn’t weight as heavily as others)
1230 SAT (590 Cr, 640 M, 620 W)
27 ACT composite

I have a pretty good curriculum under my belt. NY prepares students pretty well with regents exams (statewide exams on every core class)

Freshman Year
Didn’t know what i was doing - no honors classes

Sophmore year
Honors Spanish
Honors Math

Junior Year
Honors Math
Honors English
AP US History
Honors Chemistry

Extra Curriculars

Summer- New Job - ice cream store - 20-25 hrs./week

Other things
TaeKwonDO Blackbelt - (5 years, stopped sophomore year)

I know it’s kinda a rough sketch, but… there are more things… basically i think you get what kind of person i am!
Thanks!

Here’s the stats at the schools you have in mind:
University of Maryland - College Park–W GPA 3.85 with SATs of 615/630/640 (1885)
University of Delaware–UW GPA 3.5 with SATs of 595/605/620 (1820)
Penn State University - University Park–UW GPA 3.56 with SATs of 593/617/615 (1825)
University of Connecticuit - Storrs (main campus)–UW GPA around 3.47 with SATs of 580/597/615 (1792)
North Carolina State University *** Favorite ***–W GPA of 4.09 with SATs of 580/613/615 (1808)
Florida State University–W GPA of 3.73 with SATs of 580/584/615 (1779)

You have a 3.7 W GPA with SATs of 590/640/620 (1850), decent ECs, good work experience, but no leadership showing in items mentioned.

So your chances are about as follows:
University of Maryland - College Park–slight reach
University of Delaware–match
Penn State University - University Park–match
University of Connecticuit - Storrs (main campus)–safe match
North Carolina State University *** Favorite ***–slight reach to reach
Florida State University–match

I’d say work on getting something that shows leadership on the resume–then you’d have slightly better chances at UMCP and NCSU. Unfortunately for you, NCSU–which is your favorite–is also the longest shot. But the other schools on your list are good ones, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Good luck.

For mech engineering, I’d suggest scratching U Conn and FSU, and perhaps adding Va Tech (match), Univ of Florida (reach), and perhaps Ga Tech (reach).

Why would you reccomend scratching FSU And UConn? Just curious!
Thanks!

Because for mechanical engineering the other choices are better.
