Don’t be upset if Cornell is the ONLY school out of your list you can get into. I know and you know that Cornell is a damn good school.

haha yeah carps, i am in the process of preparing myself for like 7 rejection letters haha

you have good stats- dont let any of our comments discourage you- we can say all that we wanna say but in reality we never know- and youll never know unless you try- so give it a shot- but not too many ivies cause i heard that you just look like you want an ivy college and are just lookin for the prestige

With Alberta being under half the size of New Jersey combined with your fairly unimpressive AMC/AIME score for those schools, it doesn’t seem that your math awards are actually that competitive.

AMC 12B - score: 113.5
AIME - score: 5

Cornell - reach (international factor + asian)
Other schools - big reach (international factor + asian there too)

where did it say he was asian?

probably the fact that i said I was an international student gave it away

I am an asian though, which sucks (in the admission process I mean, I like being an asian in general lol)

yeah, you are right. I am really not that great in competitions nor do I study like some other people for those contests (I want to study for them and get good scores, but I don’t have the will poewr). I just write them cuz they are interesting. Alberta is supposed to be pretty decent in math contests though…but i guess not compared to the states…

i guess im going for the “well-roundedness” in my application. my essay also showed that too. I discussed my various activites in a reflection form (school, performing in frotn of everyone for a talent show, a basketball game) to show different dimensions of me. I want the adcoms to see that i have a “life”.

thanks for the comments anyway

personally, i think if you lived in the states and were white,

i wouldn’t be surprised if you got into cornell and 2 or more of the other colleges, but i’m not really sure how much being asian and international really kills.

hm well last yr i talked to a harvard representative that came
and i asked her if harvard had a quota for internationals
and she was like
“WHAT? WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT?”
so yeah…im confused ![]()
hopefully being an international doesn’t kill my chances tooo much

They dont have a quota for internationals, they just favor American applicants. They are an American institution after all so it makes sense, but it makes the international competition even more competative than the national.

I think you have an interesting story, and I actually I am pretty impressed with your awards and Ecs, which are above average for most applicants. coming from Canada actually can help you, becuase its different.

HYP: Reaches
MIT: Slight reach (I actually think you have a decent shot–but then again, there is no way to tell)
Stanford: Reach
Cornell: Match
