Chances at RD

<p>Hi all,</p>

<p>Student : International student / Indian</p>

<p>**Curriculum : **Central Board of Secondary Education</p>

<p>**Degree : **Engineering and Management</p>

<p>I don’t have GPA grading in my school. The grading is purely based on marks obtained:
9th - 85% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, English-B, Hindi-B)
10th - 90% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, English-A, Hindi-B)
11th – 75%(maths-C,physics-A,chemistry-B,computer science-A,English-A):)</p>

<p>Rank : 7 / 59</p>

<p>Courseload : Most rigorous courseload offered by the school.</p>

<p>I had also received a scholarship in grade 11 due to my academic excellence in grade 10. It is only offered to students who have passed out of grade 10 with really high grades in the Central Board of Secondary Examination. Approximately every year around 10 students receive such a scholarship.</p>

<p>ACTIVITIES :
1) Attended the Global Young Leaders’ Conference (GYLC) in Washington/New York this year.
2) I have been learning Indian Carnatic Music vocal for over 10 years and have given a 2 and half hour concert. Apart from this i have also received the First Class Distinction in the Carnatic Music Vocal Junior Exam (which is pretty tough to get).
3) Made Robot for science exhibition which uses sensors to travel through a maze and then using LED’s to show the intensity of the light in its path.
4) I have also been learning Carnatic Music violin for over 4 years and have recently won 3rd place in the Inter-House Talent contest held in my school.
5) Information Head in the school Anti-Smoking Committee in which a presentation is going to be made to the Grade 9 and 10 students on the Harmful effects of smoking, why we smoke, how to stop smoking and the harmful chemicals present in cigarettes and cigars.
6) Singing - Star of the Section winner in grade 9, 10 and 11.

7) Swimming
8) Made a presentation on Periodic Table for the Science Exhibition in Grade 9 and a presentation on Tessellation for the Maths exhibition.
9) Helped the team in coming 3rd in an inter-school robot competition
10) Participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Scholarship Program
11) Certificate of distinction in the Green Olympiad which is an Olympiad based on knowledge of the environment.
12) Recently participated in the Computer Olympiad.
13) Donned the role of a teacher on Teacher’s Day for 2 years.
14) Have acted in many cultural plays and have also been a narrator in many other activities.</p>

<p>SAT SCORES:
MATH - 730
CR – 600
W - 640</p>

<p>SAT II SCORES
MATH - 650 -
PHYSICS - 710
CHEMISTRY - 740</p>

<p>Can’t say much about the essays because i feel they are good but it depends on the adcoms view point.</p>

<p>AID : DO NOT REQUIRE FINANCIAL AID - if it makes a difference.</p>

<p>BTW how is engineering at Bucknell.</p>

<p>I think you have OK chances for Bucknell’s engineering program. It’s very difficult to get into and it is very highly ranked. It’s definitely not a sure thing, and Bucknell is need-blind, so the fact that you’re rich won’t help you at all.</p>

<p>Thnx for the reply jac101689.</p>

<p>Anyone else…also what are the other LAC’s which are good for engineering - which i can get into.</p>

<p>i am a freshman engineering major at bucknell. being an international student will help you as bucknell is looking to increase their international student enrollment. not asking for financial aid should also help you as an international student. your high school looks ok but your grades did fall off a bit in your 11th year. but you do have impressive extra-curriculars which will make it up somewhat. your SAT math is good, CR and writing are kind of low unfortunately. however, i dont think bucknell cares too much about the writing section right now. the course difficulty/load and class rank should help. </p>

<p>For admitted students in the class of 2010, the middle 50% SAT CR was 620-720 and 650-740 for math. but the students who actually enrolled had a range of 600-680 CR and 630-710 Math (middle 50%). so you might be ok.
bucknell doesnt require SAT 2s, but most people give them anyway and they should help as well. your math score is a bit low though. 71% of my class graduated top 10% in high school while 90% graduated top 20% (based on class rank). for you, 7/59 = you’re in the top 12% of your class. </p>

<p>the engineering and management program is competitive. i know that from my year, only 10 people are going to be accepted into the program.<br>
Engineering is probably bucknell’s best major. bucknell was ranked 8th in engineering for schools whose highest degree is a bachelors or masters when i applied.
Since you don’t require aid, you probably have a better chance of being accepted as an international. Make sure that you also apply to some good state schools in the US if you can pay full. try University of Virginia, University of Michigan (ann arbor), university of illinois - urbana champaign. they are all very good for engineering. graduating from a big university has its advantages: when you are looking for a job, for example.</p>

<p>i forgot to mention penn state and ohio state. they do have student populations the size of a town/city so that may not be your thing.</p>

<p>other engineering LACs: try lafayette college, trinity college (<a href=“http://www.trincoll.edu)%5B/url%5D”>www.trincoll.edu)</a>, and union college. you should certainly consider the state school option. however, it maybe a bit harder to adjust there since they tend to have a large student body, so not so much individual attention that you can get in a LAC.</p>

<p>Yup i am applying to UMich and UIUC - both which mostly will reject me considering how difficult it is for an OOS to enter + being an Indian means i needed to score really high SAT scores. </p>

<p>But Bucknell is one of my major options in my match universities listing. </p>

<p>Thanks for the replies.</p>
