Chances at Smith, Oberlin, Wesleyan, Vassar and Skidmore?

<p>Hi, I know this sort of thread is posted too much. Yet, as a slightly neurotic upcoming senior about to apply to colleges, I think it would be nice to get some feedback.
anyway, heres my info:
I go to Brooklyn Technical High School, which was rated one of the top 50 best public schools in the country (top 3 in NYC). While my grades are considered rather good for my school, I’m a little intimidated by people’s 4.0s in other school. Getting to that:</p>

<p>My Overall G.P.A is approximately a 3.5. My freshman year grades were average in the low 80s but then I got my act together and have gotten mid 90s ever since. (Averaging 94 both sophomore and junior year and planning to do the same for senior year.) So without freshman year grades I’d have about a 3.8</p>

<p>APs taken in Junior Year: A.P English Lang: 4 A.P Us History : 4 A.P Chemistry: 4
A.Ps to be taken Senior Year: A.P English Lit, A.P Spanish Language, A.P Government
My school also has majors, for which I am majoring in Chemistry. So college level classes I will be taking are: Quanitative Analysis, Organic Chemistry, and Modern Instrumental Chemical Analysis (they all sound incredibly arduous and scary…) </p>

<p>I’ve only taken the SATs once, but I plan on either taking the Sats again or taking the ACTs instead, depending on how i feel. CR: 620 M:660 Wr:670. ONCE AGAIN, i plan on taking it again! And i plan to score about 150 points higher (100 points in reading, specificially.) </p>

<p>SAT2s: US:760 Literature: 720 </p>

<p>Extra C’s: I’m going to be the President of the Progressive Student Awareness in my school (political group) which I’ve been in since sophomore year. I’ve been in the NYC Student Union (a union founded and completely run by students) for four years. Each of these groups I have invested a serious amount of time in, considering the latter required me to colloborate with NYC Chancellor Joel Klein about different education issues.
Oh, and to elaborate on my ECS (because i feel like they help me stand out) I personally faught for NYC student metrocards by testifying at the MTAs public hearing in march, I’ve been on Brooklyn for Peace’s discussion panel (through progressive student awareness) for the national budget, I’ve organized education protests in front of city hall, and spoken at press conferences with several city counsil members about student metrocards. </p>

<p>Sorry if I rambled. I’m just trying to give you as much info about me as possible. So what are my chances?</p>

<p>In addition, I have two teachers who seem to really adore me and would love to write me a recommendation, if that helps. One is a US history teacher, and another is an A.P Lit teacher.</p>

<p>I think you have a credible shot at all of them with Wesleyan and Vassar at the reachey end merely because of the demographics of being a female from NYC, and assuming no other hooks. Being a science major definitely helps. Smith and Skidmore are more matches. Oberlin is pretty close to Wesleyan and Vassar in terms of reachiness for someone like yourself. Go to one of the websites and do a financial aid self-analysis, just to make sure these schools are not also financial reaches (I assume that you come from a modest income household) and pick a safety.</p>

<p>Smith and Skidmore - In.
Vassar - Reach. They are trying to attract more males as opposed to females (given the gap in gender) so I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Vassar in those respects.
Oberlin - Low Reach, probably in.
Wesleyan - Reach. If you get higher SAT scores, you’ll probably be a match.</p>

<p>Smith has amazing financial aid (have you seen the size of their endowment!?). If you get accepted, you should come here. ;)</p>

<p>Also, since you’re in NY, have you considered doing Macaulay Honors? What race are you?</p>

<p>I’m white. I’m a upper middle class jewish white girl. Whats so unfortunate is that I add absolutely no diversity to campus. That’s definitely my weak spot.
But in addition, I’m applying EA to wesleyan and my aunt is something like the secretary to the President at Smith (2nd or 3rd in command I guess.) I just wanted to know what my shots were simply based on my own credentials.</p>

<p>I would love to apply to Macaulay Honors, but I think its best for my own social growth to be somewhere other than NYC.</p>
