Will my average essays on the ACT and SAT have a strong negative effect on my chances, or will my strong application essays make up for them?
Any insight is appreciated.

I’m not feeling success here.
Those writing sections indicate to me at least that your essays might not be as strong as you think.
The SAT scores are ~ a year old and the ACT changed there writing format, I was told by a Stanford rep that they would only take into account the ACT score as it was the higher of the two.
I also have nearly illegible handwriting and write much better essays when time is available. I commonly score 8s on AP English essays and have a strong feeling that my application essays are quite strong.
I’m with @jarrett211 on this; I’m not sure how you can make this claim, but good luck.
I’m not disagreeing with you that they won’t take your ACT score into account, but they will see that writing section and that is concerning.
The good thing is that you always can take help for your essays. Have it reviewed and ask for help. However, I also agree that your chance is grim!
Hey! Other than your act writing score, your other stats are well above average (not saying they totally compensate for your writing score). Tbh, I would not include being a member go the clubs that you mentioned unless you were an officer. Also, try to make your app towards one superb side of you. If you’re majoring in business, try to put a lot of emphasis on your business in development (I’m actually in development for my online business as well haha), for example. I’m also applying REA to Stanford as well.
