Prospective International Relations and Political Science Major. My brother is currently a Junior at Tufts. I Don’t know if that means anything though.

any comments and helpful advice will be appreciated.

You are definitely going to need to raise your SAT scores above the level of your PSATs. Also, is your school extremely competitive? Your gpa is kind of low, but if it’s a competitive school, that may not matter as much. Also, you have a lot of club memberships. You will need to go beyond the memberships & convey what you have actually done in those clubs. It’s not so much quantity as quality of extracurriculars. I’m not saying you don’t have quality — I’m just pointing out that you will need to be sure to share the details in your application.

Right now, I don’t see it. Tufts rejects some really great/smart/intelligent/passionate kids who just don’t have the extracurricular records. Tufts IS a competitive place, so just having a good GPA and good test scores may not cut it. But those two things may be a way to start.

In general, I would agree with you, but I don’t really know why you’re saying that here. In my opinion, the OP’s projected test scores (basing off of his PSAT) are going to be a much bigger problem than his EC’s.

His CR score is a good start, however. The writing and the math are much easier to improve on. Definitely prep well for both sections. Preparing helps - alot.

nyyben, if you keep your gpa where it is and expand on your extracurricular activities you certainly have a chance. When I took the PSAT as a sophomore I did not do much better than you, at a 172, and I sent a 2150 SAT score to Tufts, so it’s certainly possible. Good luck.

^ No, I’d disagree. I have a few friends who were * involved * but hadn’t done anything really extraordinary with their interests; they didn’t get in. But yes, you are correct.

International Relations admissions is extremely competitive. if i were you i would really focus on your math average and sats. you have a lot of time don’t worry. good luck!
