Chances at USC and UC Berkeley

Rank: 1 (they removed our class rank but before they did I was 1)
GPA: 4.4 Weighted
ACT: 30 (math 30, english 30, science 30) above 96%

I currently attend a high school in San Jose. I applied to a bunch of UCs some CSU and some other privates. My reach school is definitely USC. I have had Straight As since freshmen year. I took some of the hardest courses in my school including AP CALC BC, AP CHEMISTRY, AP LITERATURE, AP SPANISH, and AP Biology. My weighted GPA this year was a 4.6 and overall a 4.4. As long as i get As my last semester I should be one of the valedictorians at my school.I did some community service at my food bank but not a lot cause I had to take care of my sibling for most of my high school life.I am a Questbridge Finalist but did not get the college match. My brother currently attends USC as well. I am also the first generation in my family to go to college and the first person from my fathers side to go to college, my brother that attends to USC is my half brother. So what are my chances at getting into USC, Berkeley, and Cornell?

Note:
I was going to apply to cornell but did not finish the application on time. However a admissions officer called me and encouraged me to finish the applicant so I did. Does that mean anything?

oh forgot to add
that i did MESA my freshman and senior year
won the principals award 6 times
and won student of the month over 5 times
and was in video club my senior year

PLS GIVE ME HONEST OPINIONS ABOUT MY CHANCES, DONT SUGAR COAT IT PLEASE!!
THANKS

intended major? other ECs? UW GPA?

Mechanical Engineering (Second Choice:Astronomy)
I have a 4 GPA unweighted
Like I said I had family duties that restricted me from doing a lot of ECs
but I was able to volunteer at Sacred Heart Food Bank and was in the MESA club at my school (a engineering club)
I also was in video club

stats are great; if you qualify as first generation it’s a great hook, especially combined with your stats.

only problem is your lack of ECs, but if you had legit family duties that you can explain, they could look past it.

Thanks for the input
My family situation was explained in my questbridge application and on my CSS profile
Hopefully they do look past that
THANKS AGAIN!

I was also accepted to UCSC with the REGENTS Scholarship
is that such a bad choice of school with my intended major?

Honestly, USC is extremelyyy likely! The fact that you’re doing well in school, have a legacy there, and are a first generation college student gives you very high chances
UC Berkeley seems pretty likely too with your stats; Cornell is probably a bit of a stretch though.
Good luck!

Thanks for the input!

You’re practically in at USC, being 1st generation and legacy and you have really solid grades. Like the previous people have stated, you don’t have many EC’s but if you can really play up the EC’s you’re in and show that you’re super-dedicated to them, it could help a lot. Other UCs like UCLA and UCB are also pretty likely. CSUs are guaranteed.
Regarding UCSC, it’s not too bad, but consider it your safety. If you get into USC, consider going there (the scholarship might help you at UCSC, but if money is a problem USC gives great financial aid).

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1304596-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

You’ve got very good chances of getting into all the schools you applied to.

Thanks for all the answers!

I think you will get into USC almost guaranteed. UCB will be tricky because your ACT’s are just okay, a 32+ would help your chances a lot, but never the less you do have a good shot. Also, I would take UCB at 20k a year over cornell at 50k a year any day.

Make that $30K for Berkeley. If the OP has significant financial need, USC could actually be cheaper.

Just got denied from ucla!
Is there still hope for berkeley?

Yes, I know a CC who was rejected from UCSD(got in through appeals), rejected from UCLA and was admitted to UCB.

thanks
hopefully I have his luck

Anyone else denied from UCLA but is waiting to hear from UCB>
