Chances based on SAT?

Today I received my score from the January SAT, I scored an 1820. Based on this number and an estimated 3.7-3.77 GPA, what would my chances be for U Park going in undecided. Also I’m a junior in state.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

@Orioles21 You have a very good shot at DUS summer admit and a good shot at DUS fall. But don’t take anything for granted because similar stats were rejected this year. Take the SATs again and do better, and get your GPA over 3.8 to make it (closer to) impossible for them to say no. Good luck.

@orioles21 according to the information and statistics PSU reports, it would seem that you would be safe for Fall DUS, but one of my son’s friends had nearly those exact scores (slightly higher SAT I believe) and was told he has to do Summer to get in. Who knows? Probably depends on how much they want to maximize the revenue from their empty dorms in the summer…I’m sorry, I mean help the students make an easier transition to college by allowing you to spend an extra $7k by attending in the summer…as it it is obvious someone with a 3.7+ GPA would probably struggle to adjust to academics and learn to walk across a campus at the same time. Good luck.

@PennsyDad‌ Very funny and oh so true. Love your sense of humor.

True that @pennsydad! Tuition is actually north of $7k and that doesn’t count the $2k plus to fill those empty dorms and the empty trays in the ‘dining’ cafes.

@bruce. OP said he was in state, so I think it is “only” $7k for him. You get the pleasure of about $10k, I believe.

@pennsyDad - Oops. You’re right. Lucky me!

That’s why it really is a misconception that summer admit kids were not necessarily as high achieving in high school as fall admit kids. A quick scroll through the acceptance threads will show you that there does not seem to be a rhyme or reason as to who gets put where. I’ve seen from 3.0 to 3.7 get put in summer and I’ve seen the same spread get put into fall. It probably comes down to how the GPA’s were calculated. There is a young lady who was turned down from BOTH summer and fall this year with a 4.0 weighted GPA. But, however her school calculated GPA worked to her detriment. That’s why it’s really really difficult to compare GPA’s on a place like CC.

That being said, my D is gladly doing summer. Yes, it’s a bit more money for room and board…but in her case it will work to her favor because she wants to go to grad school and she will either have the luxury of not taking as many classes per semester in 4 years thus really concentrating on the classes she has…or she will be able to finish early. But I know her situation is not the situation of everyone else. I think without summer, she would have been put into a branch campus which is something she really did not want. So I’m glad they have the option…but as with everything Penn State…it’s not cheap!

I found something that says that Penn State has social studies requirements, but not history requirements. In my school it I all considered the same thing. I should have 4 credits of history + social studies, but would only have 2 that are really social studies, and according to the source I’m looking at PSU requires 3. Is this a problem?
