Chances Cal Poly, SLO?

Transfer from a CCC to Cal Poly, SLO-would be applying for Fall 2011 to Liberal Arts college at CP.

-I got an “F” in one elective course that is un-related to General Education, and not a major-required course. Out of 22 students, 19 failed this class.

-Even after the “F”, my GPA is above 3.0 and I can easily get it back above 3.5. My college transcript is solid “A” and “B” grades except that one “F.” I do plan to re-take this course.

Volunteer Work:
16 months in a local hospital, part of their Career Pathways program.
-I will be seeking additional volunteer work this summer/winter, 2010.

EC’s:
Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society

-I have heard that CP gives preference based on locality. If that is true, I may have that factor going for me-I live in a bordering county.

Would I be any better off to wait an extra year and apply for Fall, '12? I would use the extra year to build back my GPA, and for extracurriculars/volunteer activites. Is it a lost cause to shoot for CP after failing the one class?
