chances (carleton reed macalester and midd)

okay, I want to know if i have a good shot at some really good LACs…
carleton, reed, macalester, oberlin, kenyon and middlebury

I am a white girl from Missouri

**assume that I will write really good, but not spectacular, essays and have REALLY good recs (my teachers love me, it’s like a weird gift of mine)

GPA: uw 3.95 w 4.1 (our school doesn’t give a lot of credit for honors classes, and you can’t really take any before junior year, but I’ve taken almost all of them.)
Rank: doesn’t rank, but in top 5% of a class w/ like 130 ppl.
SAT: 2090/2400 700cr 690m 700w
SAT II: Bio-m 710, Spanish Reading 760, US History 780
AP: US History-4 US Government-5 (will take 4 more APs next year)
ACT: 30 **34 english, 31 math, 32 reading, 24 science :-(

let’s see… some of my important EC’s
Teach english to refugees (4-6 hrs per week)
Exchange student in ecuador
tutor Spanish kids
newspaper editor
I have a part time job @ a local “k-mart” type store (10-15hrs/wk)
girl scout gold award- did a service project to help immigrants in my area
track
alto saxophone

i have some good awards, but nothing earth shattering.

Thanks!!!

For Reed, you can see from http://web.reed.edu/ir/admission.html</a> how your numbers add up. Reed doesn’t use SAT W; students almost never encounter an analogous exam in a Reed class. Your ECs look good; essays will be very important. Being a white female makes it harder to get in.

thanks, anyone else?

I think you look good for all of your colleges (SATs are a shade low for Carleton, but still within the accepted range). Be sure to visit, if possible and interview (demonstrate interest!).

Good luck!

i had the same SAT score and basically the same GPA and i got into Oberlin. i think your extra curriculars are good too. however, i think the deciding factor was my essay because they e-mailed me about it. i can’t really comment on the other schools.

can anyone give me a perspective on middlebury? i know that my SAT scores are a little low for there, but I was thinking of submitting my SAT II scores instead.

thanks
