Chances? Do I qualify for AUTOMATIC REJECTION?

This is the most competitive school that I’m going to apply to this fall, and I’m pretty sure my chances of admission are grim, but I’m curious what you people think…

I think I’ll have 1 rec and it’ll be good.

Bases on my ACT writing, my essays should be epic.

So yeah. Don’t hesitate to be harsh.

Not bad d00d. Dno rly considering ima freshman. The 2.8 gpa probably does some damage id expect…

It’ll actually be more like 2.95-3.05. Not as low as 2.8. It really just depends on this semester, which I have all A’s in so far.

there’s no harm in trying. but i wouldn’t count on getting in. they don’t count freshman year grades, but your junior year is terrible enough to be considered a downward trend. and your ACT score is in the lowest 25% of all enrollees last year. (which includes instate) Write a great humble and passionate essay, get good recommendation letters, and try to do well the rest of your high school years, apply and see what happens. make sure to apply very early.

Why not try?

a 12 on the ACT writing does not necessarily mean you’re a great writer by any means. you could be though, just the ACT writing is like a formula, college essays aren’t.

So, would you gauge my chances at about 25%?

Do you think you have a good chance getting in at UDub in-state (what is your academic index)? If not, your chance at Michigan OOS is much worse.

yep… auto reject most likely.

Quite a bit less than 25% chance insofar as statistically even an UW 3.5 is 14th percentile at U of M and the 27 has less weight and isn’t high enough to boost your chances…which is not to say it’s not “possible” if you want it badly enough and can get your game together between now and then: eg. get a math tutor; increase your gpa and further boost for increase senior yr. gpa, AND write stellar essays, find glowing reccs, submit EARLY. Unless there is something you’re not telling us (like you invented a vaccine or your school is ranked most rigorous in the U.S.) you are faced with a real reach. You would need quite a hook to get past those stats.
Good luck, though, you never know til you know!

i mean u have a low gpa… and act… which are two huge parts in the decision process… and ill admit u got a lot of APs down… but its nothing impossible to keep a 3.5+ gpa… im taking 6 APs and with a bit senioritis and i keep my gpa 95+

I think you’ve got a chance. Your low GPA is going to hurt, obviously, but then again, look at the classes you took! They like students who take every opportunity to take challenging classes, and you’ve certainly done that. Re-take your ACT, aim for a 32, and I think your chances will improve further.

Your GPA is too low. I just don’t see how you will ever get accepted, especially from OOS.

Well… I applied. GPA’s at a 3.03 and rank’s about top 40%. It’s my first choice now (I know, I’m setting myself up for disappointment) and I REALLY want to get in. I think my essays were really really good too.

I know how insanely old this is, but thanks for all the help.

Yeah, very likely auto reject. I don’t know why you took such a huge course load if you couldn’t handle it. Why did you sign up for that huge course load when you only got a 2.8 GPA freshman year? Raising your GPA should have been your #1 priority IMO.

I agree he’s taken a very rigorous course load, but it’s not impossible to maintain a good GPA while doing so. I know people always say it’s easy to get a 4.0 with all easy classes, so those people won’t get in U of M. It’s also easy to get a 3.0 with all AP/Honors, and I don’t think U of M accepts those students either.

Don’t be too disappointed if you don’t get accepted. IMO it would be better to go to a less prestigious college and study something you love and do well rather than going to a prestigious college and hope to pass with all easy classes.

At least you know what you needed. Get your heart set on ann arbor and transfer after one or two years from another university.

I wish my school did Charlie and the Chocolate factory for a play…

I know freshman that have gotten into Michigan with a 2.8 and a 19 ACT. Nothing is impossible.

Looks like you qualify ( although there is no cut off stats) for automatic rejection, but if you really like the school and want to attend the worst thing you could do is not apply at all. I myself have stats below University of Michigan but still applied due to those reasons.
