Male senior at Brooklyn technical high school (huge, highly competitive stem public school in nyc); ACT - 35; The weakest part of my application is my GPA. 3.28-- I had a somewhat difficult freshman year, and a very tough sophomore year. Worst grades have been in Spanish and math. After sophomore year I was diagnosed with ADHD and started on meds. Since then my grades have gone up significantly; Also in junior year I began be taking classes more in my interest area (my school has majors. I chose Law & society, the most humanities-oriented major). 8 AP classes; started and ran a club at my school in junior year which is ongoing. Secretary of another school club as of this year. During jr year I volunteered helping run kids programming at synagogue each Saturday (about 6 hrs a week) and now am being hired by then as an assistant teacher for the synagogue (about 4-6 hrs about one or two Saturdays per month). Will take the sat subject test in math I and send if I get over 700. Interned with a politician over the past summer; previous summer I participated in an internship program at jcc, and was placed as an intern at a small company that helps people plan what will happen with their social media after they die. Summer after freshman year I took classes through the Fordham University summer program for hs students.
@ets7 Cornell really looks for fit with the major that you’re applying to. Make sure your essay also really conveys why you would be a great fit for the major. Also, if your EC’s convey your passions/interests with your major, that will also be very beneficial to your application. I’m not sure if Cornell explicitly states this but from CC it seems to be true. Nobody can be completely sure of your chances, but if you show great fit with your major that will help you! Best of luck!!
