Chances for 2012 pretty please :)

Sorry I can’t be more concise.

South Korean Female
Born in Korea
Raised in Vancouver, Canada
Citizenship is Canadian
Currently living in USA in WA on a dependant visa with family
.: International Student
But hoping to gain residency by sophmore yr of university.
Gradded HS in 2011, hoping to go to UW autumn of 2012 (taking year off)

Went to an avg HS that doesn’t do W gpa, let alone avg percentages (in BC, Canada)
.: I calculated it myself including all the easy courses + hard courses, etc. like everything

soph: 89.3% so, i’m guessing 3.572 gpa? (unweighted of course)
junior: 80.2%, 3.208 (ew)
senior: 93%, 3.72 (most courses are 95%+ except english: 84% after state exam)
.:Total: 87.5%, 3.50?

But! they only ask to send a pdf of my transcript, so I don’t think they’ll be able to check all this unless they calculate it themselves. It’ll just show as percentages for each course.

SAT I: 740CR, 740M, 680W = 2160
TOEFL: 115

EC:
-Took swimming lessons since grade 2
-Was on my way towards becoming a lifeguard before I moved here, so I have several lifeguarding course credits on my transcript
-Can play guitar, piano, violin (amaturely)
-Senior member in school Leadership Team (was awarded a scholarship from Leadership teacher)
-Did many fundraising activities for the holidays, school spirit, valentine’s day (organized selling roses, candies, heart messages and delivered them), food bank
-KIVA (raised $800 in one week for microloans for people in third world countries): my school raised the 5th most amount in total in the whole world after several years of fundraising: something like $30,000+
-Initiated and raised money for local guide dog that was disfigured from a skytrain incident.
-Initiated and raised money for Japanese earthquake relief for 1 week towards Japanese Red Cross: around $700
-Founded the debate club in sophmore year (it gradually died down but they don’t need to know that, hah)
-Volunteered during summers at First Nations Reserves in upper BC: painting community centers, pulling weeds, hosting Korean-Native Culture Night for Koreans and First Nations to show their talent, etc.
-Collected clothes, socks for homeless shelters

This was all mostly done in my senior year of HS as part of the Leadership class that I actually got credit for (got 98%) (dunno if i should indicate that), and there’s way more but I can’t seem to remember  The earthquake relief and local guide dog fundraisers were initiated by me tho, and had nothing to do with my leadership class.

I also moved 4 times in HS (moved to 3 different cities and schools) and lived in Greater Vancouver where it is very very multicultural.
Since they’re looking for diversity, I thought that might be helpful if i add that to the application.
I’m also hoping to be a business major with a minor in chinese?/intl studies?/philosophy?/eng?- not sure yet.
I’m hoping my senior year will make up for my lack of involvement and avg/below avg grades for soph/jr years.

Thoughts? Chances? Thanks.

When you apply they will most likely ask for your uw gpa since they won’t have time to calculate it themselves (they have to review over 20k applications).
But your ECs, SAT and gpa seem strong, you’ll probably get in!

SAT, GPA, and ECs are strong. Did you taje any AP/IB/Honors/College courses? Class rigor is quite important. As for diversity, being Asian is almost like being the majority for business, not minority.

Work on your essay, and I think you have a pretty good chance. They probably won’t stare at your GPA but your class choices and SAT more.

Thanks for the responses!
I was in a pre-IB program in grade 10 and took all honours courses and got avg marks= 89%, but it doesn’t show on my transcript. I didn’t go into IB the year after because I had to move to a different city/school. I took history, calculus, math, english, english lit, chem, law, theatre, and leadership in my senior year. I think that’s pretty standard though, and I worry since I didn’t take physics12 or biology12. I also bombed physics11 because I slacked off/gave up. Actually, my whole grade 11 year I slacked off as you can see by my 80% avg, but I did recover in my senior year. In my essay, I explained the reasons for my lethargy and wrote about how i improved drastically in my senior year. I hope I get in guys!!! Thanks =D
