Chances for 2021 Junior - Yale, Brown, Georgetown, or JHU?

Hey everyone! I am currently a Junior (class of 2021) attending a New England boarding school. I am hoping to EA to Yale (one of my reach schools), but am also interested in looking into Brown, Georgetown, and JHU, among others. I am an Asian male from South Korea (I recently received my green card) from a comfortable family, and am hoping to apply as either a Chemistry or Social Science major.

SAT- 1560 in March 2019 (1520 in October 2018)
Essays - 18 for first test, 16 for second test (not very good, reconsidering retaking sometime junior year)
SAT Subject Tests - 800 Math II, 800 Chem (planning on taking either Biology or one of the English tests Junior year)
APs - Physics 1 (4), Chemistry (5), taking Calc BC, APUSH, Lang/Lit, Bio, and Studio art this year

Junior year classes - Molecular Biology Research, Junior English, AP Studio Art, AP Calc BC, APUSH, and AP Biology
GPA - 94.60 for the most recent term, and have scored around the 93-94 range throughout high school
Ranking - Unsure, but in 1st Quintile
I speak English and Korean as native languages, and have studied Spanish at school for 4 years.

Summer Programs: I attended Brown’s STEM summer program (DNA Science and Biotechnology) the summer before my sophomore year and Yale’s YYGS program (Politics, Law, and Economics) the summer before my junior year.

Extracurriculars:

  • School MUN Team - Have attended conferences at Exeter and Yale
  • Editor-in-chief of school’s yearbook
  • Graphics artist for school newspaper
  • Part of in-school peer tutoring program
  • Secretary of Asian Student Alliance
  • Co-founder of schools chapter of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK)
  • Participated in debate and mock trial tournaments
  • Principal Trombone of school orchestra (played for 3 years)
  • Principal Euphonium for MMEA Districts Festival (played for 5 years now)
  • Speaker in school TEDx conference in sophomore year
  • Diver (1 year) – not very good, but I’m not a sports-oriented person
  • Coxswain for Boy’s Crew Team (2 years) - coxed 4th/5th boats, competed as 4th varsity boat at New Englands final competition (2nd place), but am considering quitting for my upperclassman years due to the time commitment.
  • Independent research – I am currently working on a research paper on student Amphetamine use that I plan to finish this winter. Additionally, I am also writing a historical essay for the Concord Review (I hope to get this done in the next few months).

I haven’t started thinking about essays or recommendations yet, but am hoping to ask some of my junior year teachers.

Thanks!

No need to retake an SAT just to earn a higher score on the written essay. Just concentrate on junior year and fine tuning your application.

Surprised that for someone who is considering a History/Social Sciences major and is planning on being published in the Concord Review, you are not thinking about taking the APUSH test.
