Hi, I’m a 16 year old Junior Asian male from the Chicago-land area.
My public school doesn’t rank but I think I’m in the top 10 of a class of about 750. My school’s pretty competitive (three people accepted to Stanford this year, and we’ve had someone accepted to Harvard the past three years).

GPA:
4.0 unweighted GPA
~4.6 weighted GPA

Courses:
Freshmen: normal things
Sophomore: AP Macro, AP Gov
Junior: AP Stats, AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP US History, AP Lang

yet to be taken
senior: Multivariable, AP Art History, AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Micro

Scores:
ACT: 34 English 35 Math 31 Reading 36 Science 11 Writing Overall 34

Extracurriculars:
Debate Team (might be captain next year)
Tennis (Varsity one year)
Violin (~8 years, no competitive performing)
Some Volunteering

Chance me at:
Stanford
Rice
Northwestern
University of Chicago
Cornell
Caltech
UC Berkley

Thanks in advance!
And the Cubs are on a 2-game winning streak and are poised to take the lead with their amazingness and break the 99 year drought.

Your course load is very impressive as are your ACT scores. The ECs are on the weaker side and being Asian doesn’t give you a boost for the colleges you’ve listed, however, I’d say your chances are pretty good overall (Caltech is the one exception. You have an outside shot, but you’ll be competing against a bunch of kids who’ve done a lot in the sciences/math.)

Ratings on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

Stanford… REACH.
Rice… SEMI-REACH.
Northwestern… GOOD FIT.
University of Chicago… GOOD FIT.
Cornell… SEMI-REACH.
Caltech… HIGH REACH.
UC Berkley… GOOD FIT.

sort of weak ec’s, but that can be overcome with an awesome essay focusing on one of your favorite ones. Maybe if you are really good at violin you should send them a sample of your playing with your application to show that you have legitimate talent and it’s not just bs filler. That being said, writing an awesome essay is easier said than done. Many of your schools are reaches, unless you can somehow pull up your EC’s, but you certainly are not out of the running. Good luck!

How would you include music samples with an application? I have a lot of things that I could submit from recitals.

If you want to submit a music sample, I suggest you check with the school to see how they’d like you to send it. For example, Vassar College had a section on their application called “My space” where you could include a CD, art, a creative piece, or anything else you’ve done for the admissions office to see. Haverford College, however, wanted you to send all samples directly to the department under which they’d fall. It varies from school to school, so look online/on the school applications/call the admissions office to make sure that you submit your recording correctly.

Cubs suck!!! Go Milwaukee Brewers, gonna bring home the NL Central this year and hit up the world series! It’s our year, baby!!!

But uhh, yeah…decent chance.
